My five-year-old named it....I think she was hungry. But we went with it.
Are you ready?
Here's what you'll need for a girl's size 3-5:
(You will need to adjust for bigger or smaller sizes)
*under skirt fabric--I used white cotton 15 inches by 45 inches (width of fabric)
*fabrics for 4 layers -- I used half-yard for each layer (but you will have a couple inches left over---accessories!)
*a marking pencil
Sew your underskirt, including the casing. I didn't put a hem on the skirt but just serged the edge. If you need help with this go back to the Bustle Skirt Tutorial.
Cut 2 strips 8 inches by 45 inches for each ruffle.
Step 3 (I am missing a picture--Sorry.)
Sew your two 8 inch strips together to make one lonnnnnng rectangle.
Fold your 8 inch lonnnnng piece in half and ruffle with your sewing machine.
An easy way to do that is to set your tension on the highest it goes...my machine 9.
Put your stitch length to the highest it will go....my machine is 5. And now just start sewing your fabric. The machine will ruffle it for you!!!
Repeat for all 4 layers.
Lay out the layers the way you like them.
Using your marking pencil and your fabric ruler, mark every 3 inches starting at the bottom of your skirt.
Pin and sew the bottom layer on UPSIDE-DOWN (so you will have finished edges). You will probably have a couple of inches left over at the end. Just turn under the fabric where the ends meet and cut off the rest (here are your accessories). Repeat pinning and sewing for each of the other 3 layers.
Add your elastic through your casing (I do 2 inches smaller than your girlie's waist size. I did 19 inches here.)
And you are done!!!! Now all we need is some good Spring weather to wear it.
