The Vintage Holiday Dress. A tutorial.

Today is the day for the vintage holiday dress tutorial...and I am sorry but there are not 10 yards of tulle on this dress...(although I think it is just as cute.)  I do show you in the tutorial how to add the tulle if you want to for all you ambitious or plain crazy sewers like I was.... or leave it plain and just as cute.

The collar piece is HERE 

But please know that because you are drafting your own bodice pattern from a tee shirt...that the top curve WILL NOT fit perfectly.  You will have to adjust the top curve of the collar pieces to match your pattern.

    I am actually surprised that there is not a puffed sleeve tutorial on here already. Sorry, because I sew a puffed sleeve all the time!

    I found a great tutorial Dana did on puffed sleeves.....for that polka dot dress you are just going to make a really wide top curve on the sleeve(the puffy part) and gather it in tightly.

  7. So beautiful! I want to whip two of these up for my girls for their brother's christening in three weeks! Always biting off more than I can chew but your stuff is gorgeous. I'm wondering if you could give me a vague estimate of how much fabric I'd need? Should I try to cut all the pattern pieces and lay them out to figure that out first? I need a size 4 and 6. I'm not even sure of the ballpark though. 2 yds each? 4? I did a nightgown recently and it was around 2 yds.

    I used 2 yards for this dress that is a size 3/4 and 2 1/2 yards for the size 6 I made for the pink one below.

    I am still working on the collar piece....sorry....I hope to get it up today.

I have vintage sewing books and patterns that I adapt to this modern time, it's nice to not have to wonder or buy a button hole making machine! Your photos are so crisp and I love them! One question, where did you get your child dress form?

  16. Just like "joke" I can see the tutorial but I am unable to find the pattern. I would love to make this for my daughter. I love the fact that it has simple sleeves. She is a simple girl. (HATES ruffles :-)

  22. Thank you so much for this tutorial! I'm making an Easter dress for my little one and consider myself a beginner sewer...I'm a bit confused on the collar facing. I don't know what to use to cut that piece out. It looks like there are three pieces that you sew together?
