Ruffled Suspenders Tutorial

I know, I KNOW….it’s supposed to be Thrifted Thursday.
I even scheduled a lovely vintage post for today.  But then, this afternoon I made these and I couldn’t wait.  I’m sorry about the lack of thrifted goodness but I am super excited about these:
Awhile ago I made Simon a pair of plain suspenders and I love them. The look like this:

And I planned on making a pair for Grace but got side tracked and forgot.  Until this afternoon when after I watched Grace yank up her pants for the 30th time I decided it was time to finally get to work.

Here’s what I used:
The entire project from start to finish took about 20 minutes. I just followed the same steps I used when I made Simon’s.  (You and find the complete tutorial HERE )
The only thing I did differently were these two steps after I measured what length of elastic I needed:
And I after that I just followed the remaining steps and was finished.
It was easy and they totally work!  No more saggy baggy britches.  I love it.
I like them so much in fact that tonight I started her another pair—the new ones are made out of lace and I might like them even better than these ones…I’ll share them with you soon…very soon.
PS—Can you see my big mistake in this picture?
Yes, I forgot to change my white thread to a matching shade of pink.  Dang it!  Oh well…next time (and there will be a next time, several…in various colors) I will remember to put in coordinating thread.

  1. I just have to tell you how much I LOVE YOU, MAN! No, I mean it! I actually used the promise to myself that I could make your circle skirt cape, if I finished my Saturday cleaning. And it worked! I didn’t whine or complain the whole day! Better even than a cold Dr. Pepper and bag of cadbury mini-eggs…not that I haven’t eaten those as well, but they’re not as inspiring as you. Just wanted to kiss your fanny with admiration and tell you that you rock!

  2. What timing. THANK YOU!
I have been dying to find (girly) suspenders for my 11 wk old, and came upon your link on TT&J, Serindipity! Thank you :)

  3. Thank you so much for this! My 9 year old (very soon to be 10) aske for suspenders for her birthday or Christmas. I’ve been trying to figure out a way to cover the elastic without it looking too sloppy. I think this will work much better than just a super long tube because the ruffles are sewn in place and will stay put. Thanks as always for the tutorial and the inspiration!
