Movie Nights, A Projector, and $150 Target Gift Card Giveaway

Movie Nights are a big deal around these parts in both of our families. They are usually reserved for Friday nights and are filled with popcorn, licorice (black for some and red for others) and lots of pillows, stuffed friends and blankets. And, as moms, they just happen to be some of our favorite nights. There is nothing better than cuddles, unmistakable kid laughter and the general craziness that comes when five people are watching movies together -- especially when one of the viewers is a toddler who is far more interested in eating popcorn out of everyone else's bowls than the actual viewing itself.
But what awesome family memories.

And this movie night -- well, it was bigger and better. Add in two families, a set of grandparents, neighborhood friends and we had ourselves a party! A Princess Bride Mega Movie Party!
When my husband heard that we were getting a 3M™ Mobile Projector for our movie night he was impressed. But when I let him get it out of the box and set it up, he was like a kid in a candy store. He kept saying "This is really cool, this is so cool." (Boys and technology!) But it is a really cool gadget (the whole room was pretty impressed). The 3M Mobile Projector that is being sold at Target (learn more and find special offers here) is designed to connect to an Apple device and project anywhere --- so, essentially, you can have movies on the wall, on the ceiling or, as in our case, on a white sheet to make our very own movie theater in the family room. You can also watch YouTube videos, family pictures as a slideshow and even TV shows all from your iPhone or iPad!

Here is our setup ... an iPhone and the movie "The Princess Bride" on iTunes.

But first, we had to get ready. Complete with mustaches.

and tee shirts......

and then finally it was dark enough for movie time.
And what a swashbuckling movie night it was, complete with sword fights, kissing (and booing kids), and by the time it was over some sleepy but happy kids, parents and even a Nana and Papa.

Now those are the family memories we want to continue.

Okay, this picture is in almost complete darkness but look at how clear and sharp the picture is!
To think that a device that is barely bigger than your iPhone could project such clear and amazing pictures? Pretty phenomenal.

And for our next movie night, well, it is definitely going to be outside! Doesn't that sound fun for the summer? Or even on vacation!
Now it's your turn.

What's your favorite way to do Family Movie night?"

  30. Movies have always been a big thing with our family. Scary movies with my little sister have some of the best memories. Something would happen in the movie and she would squeel and run from the room with her eyes covered all the while saying "oh my gosh oh my gosh you guys". Or John Wayne flicks with my dad. those were a pretty big thing.

But one of the funnest was when we borrowed a big clunky projector from somewhere spread a sheet out on the side of the house and took all my nieces and nephews out there to watch peter pan with the bats and the mosquitoes!

  36. So fun! We just bought a house with the perfect setup for a projector, only problem is that we don't have a projector. Hopefully our new favorite movie nights will be in the basement, movie theater style, with the movie projected full wall style.

All the kids lay in the pool on their floats. It's totally cool :)

I actually used to join them but have found that the hour or two of movie time really gives me Five Minutes of Peace. thanks, mnrridgeway (at) gmail (dot)com.

  150. So many movies, so few Friday nights! That's why I'm looking forward to summer!!

  151. I love if we can get our little girls in bed early to catch a movie

  152. My boys are grown up but movie nights were often accompanied by themed foods...like Three Amigos and tacos, or we might pick a color to match the film.

  153. In the past, we've gone to our local drive-in theater for family movie night... with a wiggly one-year-old, we haven't tried it in a while! This may be a perfect solution to that problem!

  154. We're traditionalists, movie night is on Friday. We order pizza, eat it in the living room while we watch our movie. Lots of cuddles and laughter, fun, fun, fun!

    ReplyDelete
  155. Movie night is big in our family too...it is most traditionally a pizza night as well--eating in the living room no less! Would LOVE to move movie night outside with a projector. :)

  156. Movie night for us is on Sunday night after church. My husband makes fresh popped popcorn loaded with melted butter and some salt! Even if we don't all love the movie- we stick around for dads popcorn !

    ReplyDelete
  157. My kids are too small for family movie night, but my hubby and I just snuggle up on the couch with a glass of wine. Love it!

  158. My hubby and I LOVE movie night! We've been doing them since we were dating: Foreign movie night, Terrible movie night, etc. We just added the first addition to our little family and we are super excited for him to be old enough to love movie night as much as we do!

  161. yay giveaways. My hus would be crazy about the projector and I can't say I wouldn't love a target gift card.

  162. I LOVE that projector! And those darling t-shirts! How are the built-in speakers?

  163. Movie night occurs at least once a week at my house, but I have been dying to host a 'drive-in' movie night in our backyard. There is only one problem...we have no way to project the movie. Kind of a key component! this would be perfect and the size would make it so easy to store when the night is over. I need this 3M projector! :)

    ReplyDelete
  164. Oh, man I would love one of these! I want to be able to watch movies on the porch. But I'm curious about the sound. Do you have to hook it up to speakers?

  165. What a fun product. Thanks for sharing. I had no idea such a thing existed (and we finally got our kids to sit down and watch Princess Bride recently; they don't fully appreciate it yet, but at least they watched it).

  166. I like movie night with crochet or knitting in hand. There is a long history of pizza...now I prefer thin crust fancy pizza from the new place down the street. Then gelato, yum. Favorite flicks - What About Bob and While You Were Sleeping.

  167. I love family movie nights. We have just started doing them. Usually it involves me and my daughter snuggling on the couch. My husband snug on his recliner. All with sour gummy worms. Enjoying a fun movie. and by the end of the night, I have one husband snoring in the recliner and one daughter sleeping sweet in my lap. Love them!

  168. We particularly love movie dinners, where we'll spread blankets out on the floor in the family room and dine-in. I'd love to be able to do that outside, even camping!

  169. Our favorite way to do movie night is to pick out a movie that we will all enjoy and then order pizza to eat while we watch!

  173. This 3M projector is totally cool…I would love to have one so I can bring the movie night outdoor, especially in the summer. I love family movie night. My son and daughter takes turn picking a movie to watch (limited to 1 per night though). I’m always the one who prepare the snacks and drinks for our fun night cuddling on the couch.

  176. We haven't done done one yet, either, but have always wanted to! We'd probably invite all the neighbors---little kids and "big kids", turn it into a big backyard bbq, make a ton of popcorn and watch a movie up on the side of the house. A perfecet way to spend a summer night!

  177. Oh my gosh, what a COOL gadget! We just got an iPad so this would be fun to go with it!

    ReplyDelete
  178. That is a cool gadget! I would take it when we travel and show movies on the wall of a sheet so the kids can watch when we get to our destination. They currently just watch shows on the ipod touch screen. (so small).

Excited to do full on family movie night some day though! This projector looks amazing...

  185. I'm lucky enough to still have a drive in theater in town so my favorite family movie night is to pick everyone up in the truck and head to the drive in. Quilts and snacks are thrown in and then we'll all pile up in the bed of the truck to watch the movie.

    ReplyDelete
  186. Sounds like a very fun night for everyone involved! It's just hubby and me, and our favorite way to do movie night is definitely just putting something good on from Netflix and getting pizza and root beer! :)

    ReplyDelete
  187. Those T shirts are perfect! The best movie when I was in my 20's is now a favorite many years later of my daughter. How fun to be able to watch it like that.

  188. Movie night? We are usually way to tired but I aspire to a great movie night as my children get older, i am inspired!

  189. Our movie nights involve popcorn, candy, and usually an older film like the original "Yours, Mine, and Ours" (favorite!). That projector is very impressive. Who knee they could be so small???

    ReplyDelete
  190. Such an awesome projector - and how great to enjoy a movie outdoors in the summer!

Our family movie nights usually start out by somebody rushing to get the comfy chair. Everybody else settles in either on the couch or floor. If it's a Friday we're eating homemade pizza and if it's a Saturday we're probably eating an assortment of appetizer-type dishes and snacks.

Thanks for the great giveaway opportunity!

  192. We don't do family movie night often because none of us has much of an attention span, but when we do, it's all of us piled on the couch, snuggling, eating popcorn, mommy drinking diet Coke, and the kids with mugs of root beer!

    ReplyDelete
  193. Since there's only me and my husband, we don't really do anything special for movie nights right now. Of course, it also doesn't help that we're living in a tiny condo while we're waiting for the closing on the sale of our house . . . but I look forward to being in a larger place so we can get back to a comfy routine. :)
