Our friend Andrea from over at The Train to Crazy will be starting a blog tour in July to show off her new "Go-To Dress" pattern for girls of all sizes and we were lucky enough to get a sneak peak at the pattern!
I made Grace the knee length version with the flutter sleeves...she loved it...and since I made it with silky, stretchy vintage fabric she thinks it is a "dancing dress" (hence the leg warmers).
And while I'm glad she is happy with it, when we took the pictures of it she was only intersted in dancing and checking out how cool her shadow looked with a dress and feathers...
...little girls, you've got to love them...
Oh well...watch for Andrea's blog tour...she has some awesome ladies sewing their versions of this dress and they are sure to be AMAZING!
A Sincere Thank You:
A few months ago Elizabeth and I attended SNAP where we met a lot of really fun people but I think one of the most wonderful people we were intoduced to was Traci. Traci came to the conference with our friend Melissa from The Polka Dot Chair and we spent an enjoyable evening visiting with them over dinner.
Traci is one of those people you would love to hate---tall, beautiful, stylish....you know practically perfect in everyway...but then you start to talk to her and she is kind and gracious and down to earth and then you think someone this nice deserves to be so perfect.
As we visited with her we found out that she is the author of the sweet blog amazing mae (a blog which you should totally check out) and makes her own jewelry. (And I mean makes from scratch...like burns her fingers out soldering---not sure if I spelled that right---it together.) Yea, she's pretty much one of the coolest people I've ever met.
Anyways, after we had been home for a week or two she sent us an email saying that she found some vintage patterns we might be interested in and would we like her to send them to us. (See I told you she was nice.) And we said---vintage patterns??? OF COURSE!!!!
Then the other day my husband brought home a box from the post office sent to us from Traci. When I opened it here is what I found:
Two awesome patterns and a stack of the coolest vintage pillowcases ever. But that is not all.
Underneath those I found this:
Two more beautiful white vintage pillowcases and my favorite things...
Traci made Elizabeth and I each our own necklace.
And they aren't just cool neckalces, they are perfect for us---look closely---besides our initials she has little minature vintage patterns in them!
How kind.
Thank you Traci. You are practically perfect in every way. I am so glad to have met you. And one day I hope to be even half as put together as you are.
(If you want to see more of Traci's cool jewelry check out Traci's etsy shop it's full of really great things!)
A Giveaway:
Before things start to get crazy around here with Skirting the Issue we wanted to do a giveaway just for our followers. We do appreciate you stopping by, leaving comments, sending emails, and just for being nice. (We love nice people.)
So today we have a Riley Blake fat quarter bundle in one of our very favorite lines---Seaside---to giveaway.
And a copy of Where Women Create.
(A super fun magazine that highlights the spaces where talented women spend their time creating. It is ALL eye candy!) I think I've looked through my copy about 20 times and keep finding new cool things that I hadn't seen before.
(In this issue Riley Blake fabrics are highlighted and they were kind enough to mention our blog and share a photo of our work....our girls are now convinced they are famous.)
To enter to win the fat quarter bundle and issue of Where Women Create just be nice, be a follower of Simple Simon, and leave a comment about whatever you'd like.
Thank you again for following us.
Follwing us to LA to buy hundreds of pounds of fabric, to the thrift stores where old ladies try to take my stuff, to photo shoots where Elizabeth and I are attacked by swarms of mosquitos and snakes, to, well, pretty much all the other riduculous places and things we come up with.
We appreciate it.
-liZ

Gracie and I had a talk yesterday about skirting the issue and she wants to help, too! (At least as much as a four-year-old can) So as soon as I get the pattern I want for it--it goes on sale next week at Joanns--we're going into the sewing closet to choose fabric and she'll help with that and "help" with sewing it up...

ReplyDeleteI really love your blog and love to get updates in my inbox. I'm excited about this skirting the issue project for several reasons. It gives a LOT of skirt tutorials in one spot which is great since my daughter only wears skirts!!! Also, I've never made something to give to someone I don't know so this is fun and something new for me. A friend of mine just got custody of her daughter and she hardly has any dresses or skirts so I'm definately going to make her a couple skirts!!! Thank you for thinking of this!!!
ReplyDeleteI don't want to enter, but just wanted to let you know that good things just come to good people!
