Vintagely Modern Skirt for Summer

I have been thinking for a while now that it was time to update The Vintagely Modern Skirt for summer.  And because I am obsessed with making them in stripes (I did a black and white one for winter) I chose hot pink and white for summer.

HERE is the original tutorial.  But, just so you know, I did do two things differently.  First, I put in an invisible zipper on the side seam because I wanted it to be more of a fancy skirt.  You can see the zipper peeking out by her hand on her hip in the bottom picture.

And secondly, after washing and drying the original skirt a couple of times, I knew it needed some interfacing in the waistband to give the cotton more strength.  I used fusible interfacing in heavy weight, but you can use whatever you have.

And in case you are wondering, yes, I did hand piece the stripes.  I wish I could find fabric like this.  Aaahh....maybe someday?!  The stripes are 4 inches finished (cut 4 1/2 with quarter inch seams)and the waistband was cut 9  inches then folded in half with a .5 inch seam to join the waistband to the skirt (to make it equal to the stripes).

 YAY for stripes and YAY for gathered skirts...I just love them both.  And surprisingly she LOVES the combo too.  (Which is not the case for the next dress coming up.....just sayin.)
