A little while ago I found a pile of random stuff in a bin in the craft room. Among other things I found this skirt.
I made it a long time ago (like in January of 2011). It was during my season of putting doilies on everything (place mats, bulletin boards, bags, whatever held still...) Last night I went back and found the original post. The pictures are funny and not so awesome...especially the plugs hanging out of the wall in the background. (You can go check it out HERE ...but I don't recommend it.)
When I made the skirt it was too big and I had to roll the top down. And because the rolled waistband looked kooky and I was too lazy to fix it at the time the skirt ended up in a bin until Grace grew in it. Luckily I found the bin because now it fits perfectly...and Grace thinks it is "real fancy" so it was a good find. (Plus I still like me a nicely placed doily so it makes both of us happy.)
As for it's $5 Fridayness...it is made from one of those couch pillow covers that you can buy at the dollar store and the doily came from the dollar store as well. (I just chopped off the zippered top and bottom then made a casing and inserted the elastic at the top and hemmed the bottom. It's a super easy, super cheap project.)
Pillow Cover---$1
Doily---2 for $1
Elastic--- $2.88 at Wal-Mart
***And when you are done you have an extra doily and elastic to spare.***

The finding of this skirt made for some happy memories...it was fun for me to look back through old posts to find when I originally made it. And once I started going back through old posts I couldn't stop...I went back to our first $5 Friday post clear back in the spring of 2010. I can't believe that we've been doing this for that long!
Time has flown. And it's been a good ride---I just looked at the side bar to see that we've had at least 82 weeks worth of $5 Friday's...that's a lot...here's to hoping we have at least 82 more!

I'm loving the skirt, but I think your model completely steals the show here!

I had a stack of vintage doilies that I got at a local shop cheap! I made a bunch of tank tops- just attach it to the back of a tank by sewing around the perimeter. Then cut out the tank top fabric behind it! It is soooo cute to have that peek-a-boo behind the doily. Works best for kids since they don't have a bra that would show, but I did do one for me with one placed low on the side.
