I live for garage sale season in the summer. It is seriously one of the reasons that I love to go back to the Midwest for a vacation in the summer----for the garage sales, and for my family (of course!).
I am seriously jealous of all you Mid-westerners who get to enjoy awesome garage sales all the time. You have it made.
So, of course, while we were visiting family in Illinois for the summer, I had to do some garage-saling. And boy did I cram a lot of garage sales into two weekends (the last two were so hot---it wasn't worth it).
I got some amazing stuff. Today's edition came from a church garage sale. I spotted this box of trims from across the room and had to meander my way through a whole bunch of people to get to it. All the while, my heart was racing that someone was going to get there before me. But luckily I was the one crazy girl there who wanted a whole stash of vintage trim.
The whole bundle was $8 and worth every penny. I could have taken pictures of the whole lot because they are all old and just dreamy. But I will spare you and just show you a few of my favorites (although the golds really are my most favorites but didn't photograph well-boo).
The middle section with the flowers is printed leather.
I love baby rick rack and baby piping.
And don't we all wish it were still 19 cents a package? YES!!!!
I have another story about vintage trims and meeting someone....but I will save it for next week. We have yet another birthday to celebrate and then I have to face this week's laundry.
Any fun thrifts lately?

What a score!! I am totally jealous - i love the first one SO much. I would just stare at that box. So many possibilities :)
ReplyDeleteWOW!! What a great find!! I love looking for vintage sewing goodies at yard sales especially, I look forward to our town-wide sale each year!
ReplyDeleteThose are so great!! I just found some great vintage trims in my friend's grandmother's basement while visiting her in Maine. None as great as that floral one, though. Love!
ReplyDelete!!!
ReplyDeletegorgeous finds ! all of this for only $8!?! unbelievable !
Such pretty finds!!! Happy day to you! xx Holly
ReplyDeleteI found a bag of vintage trim at goodwill a few weeks ago. Most of it is black ric rac and lace but there is a bit of variety. I nabbed it for $1.99 and couldn't believe noone grabbed it before me. :)
ReplyDeleteThose trims look good enough to eat!
ReplyDeleteThose trims look amazing! I can't wait to see what you'll make with them. I wish I could find great sales like that around my place, but everything is so overpriced. I did find a great suitcase from the 1950s at a Goodwill on sale for $7! Ha, that's the best I could do.
ReplyDeleteStop making me drool!
ReplyDeleteMy latest find is a vintage version of Chutes and Ladders. It's so cute! Also a soup thermos for my son's lunches, and a really awesome milk glass vase.
Lucky you!
ReplyDeleteLucky duck! I've had the worst luck with thrift stores and garage sales since moving to Texas. I would love a score like all that beautiful trim!
ReplyDeleteJealous! I wish I knew someone to "visit" in the midwest! ;)
ReplyDeleteI have some of Wright's baby rickrack, too! I can't wait to use it on something. Do you have plans for it already?
ReplyDeleteyou make me jealous!! I did a lot of thrifting this weekend and found nothing. nothing I say. and I guess I should say I tried to do thrifting.... :)
ReplyDeleteI wish I could find that big of a score. I only ever find a few pieces here and there and it's usually yellowed(used to be white) bias tape. I did once find some amazing dark gray lace, which I bought.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to have a version of the first photo as a background. It's so colorful and pretty!
