The Love is in the Air Skirt (with Printable Template)

Every year I make Grace a skirt for Valentines Day.  (Remember last year I made her the All You Need is Love Skirt and then later I made her the Love Me Two Times Skirt.)  Well, this year I wanted to combine the felt from the first skirt with the cotton skirt of the second one and I came up with this:  The Love is in the Air Skirt.

It is a simple elastic waistband skirt made of cotton fabric with felt pieces that I held in place with fabric glue and then embroidered around with a running stitch.

It was simple and fun to make.
And if you want to make one you can print out the template for the hot air balloon and the clouds HERE.

Now I wish I could say that Grace just loves this skirt.  But, she doesn't.
She says it makes her "too high up" (since the skirt looks like the sky) and makes her "tip over".
So as of right now I'm not sure we'll be keeping this skirt...it may just end up in the etsy shop...and I'll go back to the drawing board.
Friday is the first day of February and over on Project Run and Play the theme for the week is Valentine inspired wear...it should be a good one.  Head on over there and check it out.
(And I'll just stay here and figure out a skirt that won't make Grace "so dizzy".)

  3. So so cute....but yeah you never know what the kiddos will like ;-) I have been thinking of playing with felt on clothes but the washing has stopped me. Do you have any experience with that part? Thanks!

    1. I've only done felt on a few onsies and her LOVE skirt from last year. I attached them the same way that I did here with fabric glue to hold them in place while I did a running stitch around the edges with embroidery floss. And on those items they've held and washed well---I'm not sure about felt on clothing with other techniques however.

  5. So cute! Kids are so silly sometimes! I am also curious how well the felt will hold up to washing.

    1. The LOVE skirt that I made Grace last year was made the same way as I made this one (with the felt and the embroidery floss) and it has washed and held up like a champ! I don't know, maybe I've been lucky but Grace wears that thing all the time and the felt, if anything, has gotten cuter with the washings. I'll post a photo of it on Wednesday and then you can see how it's held up.

  17. Love the skirt!!! How cute. Can't wait to post my v-day dress for my daughter sometime tomorrow as well as see the other outfits Friday on PR&P.

I have also worked with felt (polyester) on knits (as applique) and cottons. The only thing I have experienced is pilling (hope I spelled that right)...but this is after ALOT of washing. In which case you can easily pick off the pilling or shave off with one of those sweater gadgets. Hope this helps. I have not used wool felt for applique...yet.. :)
