For the Stripes and Polka-dot Sew Along this week, I decided to mix two of my favorite patterns---A Happy Tunic and the Bubble Skirt into a cheery outfit for winter. (We need cheer with the blehh weather and freezing temps we have been having.) We paired our polka-dotted creation with some striped leggings in aqua for the quick photo shoot....but I think we need some bigger stripes on the bottom so some new leggings might be in order too. I need to go and see what wide-striped-fabric I ... View the Post

This Post Has Been Brought to You by the Letter “O”
Today's post is about organic fabric, oatmeal, and orange. (Orange food that is.) Let's start with the organic fabric: Awhile ago we were contacted by Organic Cotton Plus an online fabric company that sells only eco-friendly products who asked if we would like to try a sample of one of their fabrics...and of course I said yes. Then I was able to peruse their website of wonderful organic and naturally dyed fabrics. It took me more than a week and far more than one visit to their site before I ... View the Post
What I have been up to….
I am still trying to work hard on Hannah's room, well, that and nursing sick kids which is taking a lot of energy at the moment. The painting is done. The touch-ups are done. The fabric came in and I wish I could just get it all done in three days flat, but all my energy is being spent with blankets, drinks, ibuprofen and some cuddle time with each one. Which is exactly where it needs to be. So, the room (that is still sitting in crazy shambles) can wait. I did get a few ... View the Post
Sewing Tip: Pin the Button Hole
So the other day I was cleaning off my sewing table and ran across the instruction book that came with my sewing machine...and since I was tired...and not really into my work...I started thumbing through it and I ran across this little beauty of an idea that has changed my entire life. Ok...so it hasn't changed my entire life but it's a really terrific (yes terrific) idea and I've already used it like a million times. It's simple, easy, and genius---here's what it is: Pin the button ... View the Post
The Art of Homemaking: “Cause For Alarm”
Simon just left to go play over at his best buddy's house. Being 8 now he thinks he's old and big and tough...too tough for his mom to drive him over to his friends, even in the wind and the snow. But I watched him out the front window...because even though he's 8, he's only 8 and I'm a worrier. And what I worry most about is my kids. Lately I've been worrying that I'm not teaching Simon how to be responsible enough. I am reminding him constantly to do things, brush your teeth, flush the ... View the Post
The Party Dress Remix.
One thing that Liz and I were sad about last fall is that we didn't get the opportunity to sew-along with Project Run and Play. We were both knee-deep in our Fall Look Books and it just didn't happen. But we are going to sew along this season!!! We have missed the challenge of sewing with a theme. I am up this week with a simple remix of The Cottage Home's Party Dress along with everyone else. You need to see all the entries both in the sew-along and the 8 designer's that have been posted ...
