More than a year ago I was able to take part in a group that was making bereavement gowns for our local IHC's Angel Watch Bereavement Program. The original post is here: Bereavement Gowns. It was a unique experience. Since then I've talked to many women who have been touched by Angel Watch or similar programs.Every one grieves differently. Some women have been thankful for the gowns, others a blanket they received, others have cherished a bracelet or piece of jewelry. And while the items ... View the Post
Skirting the Issue with Singer
Last week I was posting on Facebook about my sewing machine problems. You see, I had taken my machine in to be cleaned.(It's something I should do regularly but never do...however, after sewing together more than 250 skirts, 4 quilts, and at least 300 bags...aside from all the other dresses, blankets, and projects I'd put it through...I thought it deserved a little TLC.) I dropped off my machine and thought I could live with out sewing for a week........but I was wrong... SO I broke out my "back ... View the Post

Skirting the Issue: Car Caddy from Homemade by Jill
Another story.... As a youth and in college I used to visit and volunteer at a Women's Crisis Center and then later at a Drop-off Crisis Center for children. Usually my volunteer job was to go to the kid's room and play.....not a hard job....but well worth it to a teenager's soul. There we played games with the children, read them stories, rocked the babies and even once we threw them an "Unbirthday PArty" complete with balloons, cake, streamers and small presents. I can vividly in my mind's ... View the Post

The doll pattern is found HERE. Let's get started, ... View the Post
Skirting the Issue Week 4: Dolls (Why & Where to Donate)
I told you a couple of weeks ago about how the kids and I spent our first official week of summer making skirts to send with a friend who was going to volunteer at an orphanage in the Congo. When I first heard about the orphange and the kids ages, I immediately wanted to make some dolls for the little girls there. But realizing how late I was to the deadline....I knew that I couldn't get as many dolls done as I could skirts. So, skirts it was for that project! But I still wanted to make ... View the Post
