Lookbook: A Holiday Dress

I was in love with the this fabric the moment I saw on the clearance table.  ( I almost felt like it was a splurge at $8 dollars a yard after all my super cheap finds.)  It is a lilac suiting fabric, but it has a bit of a shine to it which is so pretty in real life.  I used almost 3 yards of it for the dress. The bodice was drafted with a ballet neckline and front and back darts and elbow-length sleeves.  I did line the bodice, but looking back it probably didn't need to be (which would have cut ... Halloween

I interrupt this regularly scheduled program….

to announce that my children have chosen COSTUMES!!!!!  (Good news for me.) I gave them the deadline of Monday to choose and then quickly got to work.  I have two costumes down (I have been up until all hours of the morning) and one more to go.  And the best part of the deal....all of them were made for $15 each or less!  (I love budget costumes.) Aaron decided on the red Ninjago figure (I forget his name, Kai, Cole?  One of the two....). (I found this awesome cookie rendition from HERE, ... View the Post

Lookbook: A New Coat on the Block.

This coat is actually one of my favorite pieces that I made for the Lookbook this season.   The pictures don't do it justice (it's a bit hard to photograph navy blue on a rainy day) but trust me when I say that it is DARLING in real life.  I decided in the beginning that a color-blocked  coat as part of the looks to mix and match for the colder weather which tends to suddenly hit.It is made from navy blue gabardine (which I used a coupon for) and winter white gabardine at the bottom for the bit ... Lookbook: The Heart Tee.

I am almost embarrassed to post this as a tutorial but after the last heart shirt went over so well, I added another heart one into the mix for Fall/Winter. The inspiration for this shirt came from this darling shirt and I thought the idea was so simple and cute.  The hearts are cut from felt and just sewn up the middle so they are three-dimensional in real life.  I love felt for that reason. I am now brainstorming other felt appliques to make and sew on....and some boy ones are ... View the Post

Project Runway…Dmitry…who knew?

So another season of Project Runway just ended. And I was a little surprised at the winner... Dmitry(source) Hummm...who knew? Not me. Don't get me wrong.  I really enjoy Dmitry (especially when Elena was driving him CRAZY) and I admire the heck out of his tailoring skills but I just didn't peg him for the winner of the season.(Although he should have gotten a prize for putting up with all of Elena's super drama.) I've mentioned before I was a solid Sonjia fan (Remember I even made a scarf to look ... Lookbook: Skinny Jeans, Cropped Shirt and a Cardi

This outfit is actually the favorite in the bunch. It has already been worn to school with a report that she and her friends loved her heart shirt...so I need to wash it quick so she can wear it tomorrow.  (Girls at 7 love hearts, but I think I am 7 too...because I think it was my favorite spur-of-the-moment piece too.) I knew from the beginning that I wanted a cropped shirt. You see there was this cropped white shirt in a "Gidget" movie that I have been dreaming about and wanted to make.  I ... View the Post
