Lookbook: The School Girl

Today's "School Girl" look is a Peter Pan collared blouse (you knew there had to be at least one peter pan collar ;) and a stretch denim A-line skirt.First up is the skirt.  Since my daughter is getting a bit older, I made a simple A-line skirt with front and back darts and a back zipper.  The stretch denim is from LA at FIDM and it was $3 a yard (I bought 5 yards).  I used less than 1/2 yard because it was 60 inches wide, so I still have a TON of stretch denim leftover which is great news.I did ... Lookbook: Winter White Dress

The first look is one of two dresses that I put into the collection.  This particular one is Hannie's favorite.  It is an A-line dress make out of winter white gabardine that is fully lined.  The front lace is from a vintage table runner that I have had in my stash awhile, waiting for the right dress and it finally found a home.I drafted the pattern for the dress but I do have an alternative in paper pattern form if you are looking for a similar look.  You will need to make the sides a bit more ... Look Book Inspiration

When I set out to make a cohesive collection, I decided to first picked colors.  (Many people start with fabrics or sketches....but I decided to start with color.)  As you all now know of my love for navy blue, I started with that as a base and then graduated into colors that my girlie likes (hence the pink and lilacs) and then added in grays for some contrast.I made my first stop to a paint store to find shades of each of these colors that I liked and that went together.(Which was harder than I ... Fall/Winter Lookbook

As you all know by now, I am always so inspired by classic childrenswear from the 1950's and 1960's.  So, I tried to take the looks and feels of classic children's shapes and silhouettes from those decades and then make them modern.  (I have some fun neon accessories-not shown-that a certain 7-year-old loves...so those got put in the looks too.)And I hope I succeeded...In the week (or so) ahead I am hoping to show you my original "looks" and then add some creative outfits that are mix-n-match.I ... The Art of Homemaking: 25 meals

Last week I posted about meal planning.  And in that post I said I have a list of meals that we regularly rotate through (kind of like our go-to meals that everyone eats and likes) hanging on my fridge that I use to look through when I'm planning out our weekly dinner menu. I said in that post that I'd bet if you sat down and listed the meals you make regularly you'd come out with about 25.  I got lots of emails and comments about this.  Some of you had quite a few more than 25 and others of you ...
