A Melon Blocked Skirt

Ok, today I've got another skirt... Right now solids are my favorite fabrics---more than prints...more than stripes...more than polka dots (and that is saying something because I really love stripes and polka dots) and this skirt I can make out of any combination of solids I choose. It's a new favorite of mine and it's really easy to make (one of those nap time projects). Here's how to make one: First measure your little one's waist. Now take the waist measurement and double it.  ... View the Post

Movie Nights, A Projector, and $150 Target Gift Card Giveaway

Movie Nights are a big deal around these parts in both of our families. They are usually reserved for Friday nights and are filled with popcorn, licorice (black for some and red for others) and lots of pillows, stuffed friends and blankets. And, as moms, they just happen to be some of our favorite nights. There is nothing better than cuddles, unmistakable kid laughter and the general craziness that comes when five people are watching movies together -- especially when one of the viewers is a ... The Art of Homemaking: On Building a Sanctuary

"Sanctuary... is a word which here means a small, safe place in a troubling world. Like an oasis in a vast desert or an island in a stormy sea."---Lemony SnicketMy family knows that I've always wanted to live in a renovated old church house.  I think it's because I love the idea of my home being a literal sanctuary.  (Anybody else remember in your old world history lessons learning about how one could enter a church and claim sanctuary?  Back in the day if you did this you were safe...safe from ... $5 Friday· Girls

Fringed and Slashed T-Shirts for $5 Friday

Ok I promise that these will be the last crazy T-shirt projects I post for awhile. Not forever, of course, but for a few weeks I'll put away my shirt stack and scissors and move on to some other projects. But for today.....today I've got two 80's inspired T-shirt projects in one post! So let's party like it's 1999 making: and Each of these T-shirts were purchased at the Dollar store making them only a $1 each. Then I brought them home and: Ok, I worded that weird---I didn't cut ... View the Post

Thrifted Thursday—A Thread Shelf

I know that I say this every week...but I think this is one of my most favorite thrifted items ever!  It was at a garage sale and priced at $5.00, but I had to have it.  I am in the middle of a sewing corner re-do (which I think is going to take forever...because I just keep changing my mind) and knew it would be a perfect place to store thread and thimbles. And I LOVE that it is made from old measuring sticks and rulers.  Isn't it awesome?Liz and I were talking the other day...that we are those ... Sewing with Vintage Patterns

I think we are most excited about Vintage May because we LOVE vintage.  Like, really love.  Like, we have been hoarding collecting vintage patterns since we both began to seriously sew again (going on 4+ years) and our stashes are pretty hefty.  Hefty enough that a new shelf had to be purchased in the last couple of months to hold them all.  And vintage fabric.....well, don't even get us started on that addiction.  It is a hoarding problem too! Ok, back to vintage patterns---that's why we are ... View the Post
