The Ladies of Verona

"Two households, both alike in dignityIn fair Verona, where we lay our scene..."It's no secret that I like Peg dolls...a lot...ok, more than a lot.I've shown you how to make them HERE, how to paint them for boys HERE, heck I've even turned them into necklaces and canvases to hang on your wall but I'm not quite done yet. These are the latest set of peggies that I've made.  I dressed these girls in Riley Blake's new Verona line of fabric and then decorated their little house to match.I love the ... A May Day Flower Headband Tutorial.

(Or even a flower girl headband -- wouldn't they be absolutely darling!) Happy May Day! I know the origin of the holiday has changed a number of times, but I love the idea of celebrating Spring.  I remember in Elementary school learning Maypole dances and even then I just loved the idea of girls in Spring dresses dancing, throwing flowers and all-around celebrating Spring (I think it was all the Anne of Green Gables I read as a girl.) So, we had to celebrate May Day in style.  With two little ... View the Post

A How to Make A Skirt with Fringe Tutorial

A How to make a skirt with fringe tutorial: I warned you that there would be more crazy t-shirt projects coming. And I wasn't kidding. So here's another one...a fringed skirt for Grace. I've been wanting to make one of these for awhile now...see I had this shirt when I was in elementary school with fringe and dude, it was AWESOME! I bought it at Knott's Berry Farm (so right there it's already cool) and it was a black tank top with a fringed hem line (more coolness) and then in hot pink ... View the Post

The Art of Homemaking: Deadlines (Because Schedules Just Aren’t Tough Enough)

Here's the thing...I tried to make a schedule I really did....but...it didn't work.In college I had a professor who chewed me out for being too much of a "free spirit"...and I was, and am...it's hard for me to stick to a schedule because if I think of an idea I usually go and do it...right then...no matter what else is going on.  For instance while I'm sewing I might decide that now is a great time to help Gracie make a butterfly painting I just thought of or while I'm sweeping I remember that ... $5 Friday

$5 Friday–Another T-shirt skirt

I have mentioned this before, but I have a six-and a half year old who is getting into sewing---which completely warms my heart.  She and I sewed up this little t-shirt skirt from 2 dollar store tees a week or so ago. She did the casing, threaded the elastic through it, sewed it together and closed the casing--all.by.herself. And I got the lovely assistant job of trying to make her vision come to life with the small rows of ruffles on the "h" (which was quite the task). Even the styling is ... View the Post

Thoughts· Thrifted Thursdays

Thrifted Thursday: On Mending….

Today I pulled out a dress Elizabeth bought last summer a thrift store.  I love it.  But it's damaged.Where the tears are combined with the type of fabric means that the mending is going to require my least favorite kind of sewing---hand-stitching.  Bleck.  Why do things have to wear out, break down, or loose their polish?  I want the dress but it's going to take something I lack a lot of----patience---to get the dress back into wearable condition.  Wouldn't it just be easier to hack it up and ...
