Slashed 80’s Vest

Just when you thought I had finally exhausted my list of crazy projects to make from Dollar Store T-shirts (You know like the Hostess Cupcake Skirts...Cardigan Vests...Maternity Skirts...Love Skirts...and the list goes on ) I make another one...and it may be the craziest one yet. Here's the story---I was going through Grace's drawers and reorganizing her clothes when I came across THIS VEST that I made for her.  She hadn't worn it in awhile and I wondered what I could do to make it new ... The Art of Homemaking: Ambition Meet Priority

Last week I said that I would be continuing to work of Facet No. 2 (From the Art of Homemaking)Ambition. So I have been.  At the beginning of the week I sat down and made a list of 33 things that I wanted to accomplish this week (besides the usual housekeeping, child rearing, sewing, self-preservation, and other various weekly obligatory items).I worked hard.  I accomplished a lot.  I WAS AMBITIOUS!But I didn't get to cross off everything on my list.Dang.No matter how hard I tried not everything ... What has consumed my life this week…

I really try to stay ahead in blogging world...so most of the projects you see this week are really from last week.  But not this week.  I am so behind.I have been taking my time meticulously (because I am afraid I am going to make a dumb mistake) drafting, cutting and sewing a blouse for my pattern drafting class.  I am using this gorgeous silk-cotton voile blend (I didn't even know such a glorious fabric existed) that I bought at Tissu Fabrics.  And meticulous is the key word this ... Thrifted Thursday—Scarf Skirts and Sailor Shirts

Last spring I made Grace a lot of these skirts but I never posted anything about them. They are made out of scarfs from the thrift store...which makes them about $1.50 each. Grace wore this one today (I can't believe it still fits!) along with a sailor shirt that I picked up at the thrift store for $2.00.  Add that to the $3.50 I spent on her Wal-Mart leggings and that brings her outfit to a grand total of $7.00.  (And that is a price I can afford!) I need to go and look for some more of ... View the Post

Kids’ Crafting- Spring Pom Pom Garland

This project is in no way new or innovative....but made a great afternoon of fun (and lots of yarn confetti on the floor!).The kids and I made a pom pom garland from leftover cotton yarn to add to our family room window and give a little color for Spring.  They wound the yarn (50 times around the cardboard that bias tape comes on--the short side), I tied the middles, and then they gave them all haircuts--which made for some very innovative-looking poms. But it was just the spot of color we ... Craft Stick Puppets—Perfect for Something On a Stick Day

Did you know that tomorrow is "Something On A Stick Day"? Well, it is. And I'm not making it up either....Like all those other times that I mentioned here. So in honor of this special day we made these little people for a post dinner performance: We actually made a couple of sets.  These guys are for Simon. But we made some for Gracie as well. (As you can probably guess she picked some princesses but then she also wanted a Little Red Riding Hood set.) Painting these puppets was a ... View the Post
