Kids’ Crafting- Spring Pom Pom Garland

This project is in no way new or innovative....but made a great afternoon of fun (and lots of yarn confetti on the floor!).The kids and I made a pom pom garland from leftover cotton yarn to add to our family room window and give a little color for Spring.  They wound the yarn (50 times around the cardboard that bias tape comes on--the short side), I tied the middles, and then they gave them all haircuts--which made for some very innovative-looking poms. But it was just the spot of color we ... Craft Stick Puppets—Perfect for Something On a Stick Day

Did you know that tomorrow is "Something On A Stick Day"? Well, it is. And I'm not making it up either....Like all those other times that I mentioned here. So in honor of this special day we made these little people for a post dinner performance: We actually made a couple of sets.  These guys are for Simon. But we made some for Gracie as well. (As you can probably guess she picked some princesses but then she also wanted a Little Red Riding Hood set.) Painting these puppets was a ... View the Post

Simple Spring Skirts

*We shared this tutorial last month on Riley Blake's blog and are sharing it with all of you today....you should go check out all the design team's projects---there is such talent there!*Also, please ignore the fact that there is no step #6....I am just crazy (or tired) sometimes ;)One reason that Liz and I started our blog was to show everyone that if we could sew, then basically anyone could.  We sometimes feel like we are living out Gusteau's line from the movie Ratatouille, when he said, ... This week I've been working on Facet No.2:  Ambition. Here's the report...Every day this week I've had in the back of my mind....be ambitious...be ambitious...be ambitious. This has been good and bad.Good in that I've started a lot of projects, brainstormed some great ideas, and have tried to take advantage of every spare minute.Bad in that I've started a lot of projects that I haven't finished and I've been running around like a crazy person and wearing myself out---literally.Soooooo...here's ... Flannel Bunny Buddies (A How to for $5 Friday)

Recently I've been kind of a grinch about decorating for holidays but I promised myself that I would do some fun things for the kids for Easter.  So the other day Grace and I worked together (or I should say over the course of several days we worked together---everything takes longer with a 3 year old helping) we made some bunny buddies to play with. We made a buddy for each person in the family. Here's how we did it.First we made a simple pattern.  It only takes a minute. (If you want to ... View the Post

Projects· The Art of Homemaking

Moments….

I have been telling a certain 6 year old that I wanted to teach her to do some simple embroidery stitches (I only know simple) and yesterday she came to me with an embroidery hoop and a needle and said she wanted to learn.  The problem was that I had about 15 minutes before starting dinner, was in the middle of folding laundry, and had an 18 month old running around unfolding laundry as fast as I could fold it....and it just wasn't a good time. But, I stopped.  Took a breath.  Looked at the ... View the Post
