Halloween

The Art of Homemaking: Creative License—Sometimes it’s Hard to Hand it Over

Want to guess what my 3 year old chose to be for Halloween this year? I'll give you a hint... ...she isn't a KISS groupie. (Don't be ridiculous. She doesn't even know who Gene Simmons is. MC Hammer, maybe but Gene Simmons...like I said, don't be ridiculous.) No idea? You give up? That's what I thought. That's why I made the sign. And the sign doesn't lie. That's right my beautiful little girl chose to be a shrieking eel for Halloween. (You know, "Those are the shrieking eels your ... View the Post

Thrifted Thursday: Another Way to Use Vintage Trims

Yesterday I worked on some new shirts for Grace. The poor girl doesn't really have any clothes that fit so I bought her some plain T-shirts ($3.88 at Wal-Mart) and have been busy gussying them up. As almost everyone knows, I save everything...and that includes trim and ribbon scraps. In the basement lurks a bin holding random scraps of yarns, ribbons, and trims just waiting for the day when they might come in useful. And yesterday was that day.  I used random scraps of leftover vintage lace ... View the Post

Go HERE to get the tutorial. Post edit....I forgot to put the collar piece in...I will scan it in and update it soon.  Sorry. Post post edit.... The collar ... View the Post

A Tutorial. A Hoop Skirt.

Remember these dresses? A little bit of background on these dresess.....would you believe me if I told you that they were made in 48 hours?  Yep.  It was a whirlwind of tulle.....and crazy sewing.  And at the last minute, I decided that Hannie's dress needed a hoop skirt to make her dress super full with all that tulle on it. (It didn't hold it out with just a crinoline slip.) So, I drove to Joann's, bought the supplies...and whipped up the hoop skirt in about a half an hour before we ... View the Post

Happy Halloween—A Last Minute Skirt

Today I have a tutorial for you for a Halloween skirt.  Ok, I will admit, it's not your typical Halloween skirt.  And although I LOVE me some good over-the-top Halloween skirts (and have made quite a few), this year I wanted to make a vintagy-looking skirt that she could wear again and again.  So, I came up with a simple skirt with some vintage ric rac sewn to it that gives a Halloween flair, but will be wearable for a school skirt over and over again. And here's how you do it if you need a ... View the Post
