Project Run and Play–“Breakfast at Tiffany’s”

This week the challenge was to upcycle and thrift.  Which you all know how much we love!  Although finding enough fabric for both outfits proved to be a challenge. The inspiration for our outfits came from a Vintage Idol-- Miss Audrey.  Who was (and still is) a fashion icon in her own right. So, we made our girls into modern Audreys....and boy did we have fun during this photo shoot.  (Sorry there really is a picture explosion coming....)We decided to do an urban photo shoot this time and boy was ... Beet Dyed Onesies

That's right. I said "beet dyed onesies". Weird? Probably. But I didn't start coloring my baby's undershirts with food all at once. There was a method to my madness and it all started here when I made these: Tea dyed onesies. And I love them. And I started to think if I could dye them with tea maybe I could dye them with other staining foods....like beets. Which coincidentally are delicious to eat when chilled and pickled. And even better when mixed with spinach and peas and blue cheese and ... View the Post

Boy’s Pajama Shirt Tutorial

Here is the tutorial for the boys' pajamas that we used in Project Run and Play last week.  I made another pair for this little cutie and took some pictures this time. Can I pause for a minute to tell you how much I love this kid?  And how his adoption was such a miracle.  Truly.  I really need to tell you all the stories, but I have just been keeping them in my heart for a year now.  They need to be shared, but I feel so protective of his birthmomma, who loves that little boy dearly and made ... Make Your Own Crayons

This was a fun project that I saw for the first time over here and since I love activities like this we just had to try it out. It was easy, fun, and even educational. First I bought a rubber ice tray at the dollar store that we filled with the naked, broken crayons from the crayon bin. Next we took the ice tray and put it in our experiment pan (I know the pan looks rough but it gets a lot of serious non-cooking use). Then we put the pan out on the dashboard of the mini van, shut the door, ... View the Post

A Sewing Lesson

A couple of weeks ago, on a Saturday, everyone had a project to do.  One of us had legos to build, one of us had some sewing to do, one of us had toys to eat and chuck out of a toybox, one of us had a lawn to mow.....and one of us had absolutely nothing to do. So, my project got put on hold and the afternoon became a little girl's project. And for our first sewing lesson, we made a skirt for Rebecca.  I ran the sewing machine pedal...but she did the rest, including the rotary cutter (which made ... View the Post

Art of Homemaking—“North by Northwest”

Me: Knock KnockThe Boys: Who's there?Me: BannanaThe Boys: Bannana whoMe: Knock KnockThe Boys: Who's there?Me: BannanaThe Boys: We've heard this one before...And that's how our photo shoot started. With our two oldest boys, who are sassy, and silly, and who didn't plan on having any fun with their mothers out taking pictures of them. But then out came a blow up bed in a field...and the newspapers...and the laughing. And our skeptical boys did what they do best---played. I planned on writing some ... View the Post
