Thrifted Thursday: Gracie’s New Jewlery Box

Recently I bought this crazy, old plastic box at one of my thrift store haunts for only $1. I brought it home and spray painted it ivory. Now it sits on one of Gracie's girly girl dressers and houses her jewlery. (The kind she can't play with for dress-ups.) Perfect. I love finds like this. ... View the Post

A Sun Suit with a Not-So-Sunny Disposition

When I was small (and I mean as a child not before I was 8 months along) I used to wear terry cloth sun suits. And because I'm always having my kids try out things I loved as a child I made Grace some of the same sun suits. Grace has gotten quite a bit of use out of this one. She calls it her "sun-swim-suit". The Art of Homemaking–The New Settlement Cook Book

{Sorry to those who are looking forward to Liz's post on Homemaking today....you just have me.  She is on a hiatus from The Art of Homemaking while she is trying to keep herself from going into labor too early.  Hopefully, I can be half as good as she is for the next month or so...}On one of my last thrifting trips in IL I picked up this cookbook, The New Settlement Cookbook, for 50 cents.  It was from 1954 and when I opened it I was intrigued and even chuckled at the tagline on the first ... $5 Friday…Maternity Skirts from Dollar Store T-Shirts

Warning!!!! What you are about to see isn't pretty. It is a photo of a very pregnant me. A photo which probably should have never been taken.... This is one of the maternity skirts I made for myself when I got too big for everything I owned (and that includes previous maternity clothes). I made several of these hunnies. All were made from extra large T-shirts I bought at Dollar Tree (our local dollar store). They were super simple to make. First I laid out the shirt, wacked the top off (just ... View the Post
