$5 Friday

$5 Friday (A Tuesday Edition)

I meant to get this up on Friday....but it was a bit of a crazy day.  So, here it is Tuesday and I am just getting to it.We are entering the "drooly" season around here and I was in need of some bibs.  I was going to make some, but just never got around to it.  So, while perusing Walmart (which I have a serious love/hate relationship with---but it's mega close and convenient--so I go there) I came across a pack of 6 terrycloth bibs for $5.  So, I grabbed them.  And then last Thursday I decided ... Gracie’s Jumper Debut

Today Gracie is making her debut in her brand new jumper right here on the family room couch.Grace has been sick for days with a high fever. She hasn't wanted to move, eat, or drink. But today when she saw Simon and her dad getting ready for church she wanted to get ready as well....and she wanted to wear this dress. So here she is: Fever 102 degrees, runny nose, bundled in blankets, watching A Bug's Life and wearing her brand new jumper and her favorite red shoes. This is the first smile we've ... I am channeling Cindy Brady…..

As I have mentioned before, we have been watching The Brady Bunch on PBS in the early evenings mostly to clam (or calm) the crazies while I make dinner.  And I have been obsessed with Cindy Brady's dresses. Well, the pattern that I chose was just that.  A 60's throwback.I did change it up a bit.  I wanted bell sleeves like view A, but when I got them sewn on they didn't look so good, so I put 1/4 inch elastic in the bottom which worked perfectly.  Also, there was supposed to be a zipper in the ... A Formal Apology

I'd like to apologize to any residents living in Utah county. You may be looking out the window at a grey cloud covered sky and be blaming the inversion for the bleak scenery. But you shouldn't blame the inversion. You see...it's not really an inversion at all but a tapestry of profanity woven by myself as I tried to figure out how to make my sewing machine do button holes. I'd never done them on my machine AND IT WAS REALLY REALLY HARD!!!Hence my metamorphosis into a drunken sailor. But I ... View the Post

A new pattern…and a new dress.

After our pattern field trip this last week, I have been itching to start one.  So, I chose this one.  (I tried to put the picture in, but blogger is definately having issues....so you'll have to click the link.)  I am doing style D---with A sleeves.  I got it cut out this morning and then started sewing for a bit this afternoon. It only goes up to a size 4 and even though Hannah is a size 5, it is working out.  It is a little above her knee, but it reminds me of a little retro Brady Bunch ... $5 Friday…Couch Pillow Cover Conversion

Awhile ago I picked up a bunch of these pillow covers at the Dollar Store. I had this great idea to turn them into tote bags until.... ...not less than a month later I saw on another blog where a super awesome seamstress turned some covers into tote bags. They were really cute...way cuter than my idea...I was sad. So into the basement they went until yesterday. I felt like sewing something but didn't have a lot of time to invest in a project. As I dug around the craft room I came across ... View the Post
