A few weeks ago Elizabeth and I held a sewing night at the Cotton Shop in Provo, Utah to make skirts for our Skirting the Issue Event…and we loved every minute of it!
When we approached the Provo Cotton Shop about holding a sewing night they asked how many women we expected to attend. We said we hoped for 10. And then the night came and we were surprised….ladies came and went all evening….and at one point Elizabeth counted over 50 people in the room!
What an excellent surprise!
Here is a photo of some of the wonderful women who were still there with us at the end of the evening:
Such a great group!
The evening really was a sweet experience and we were overwhelmed by the generosity and kindness of others.
For example: Jeanette….she arrived carrying the worlds biggest bag full of her crazy awesome, teen sized, boutique skirts for us! People, these skirts are BEAUTIFUL…the fabric is amazing and the craftsmanship is nothing but professional…and she donated dozens of them.
And then there was Karly who brought her son, drove over an hour to join us, and was one of the last ladies to leave before having to make the long drive back home.
But the heavy hitter of the night was Elaine. Elaine not only came with over 100 skirts (ONE HUNDRED SKIRTS!!!!) that she had made but she also cut the fabric for most of the skirts that we sewed up during the evening! We still can’t believe it! Elaine is a powerhouse and we love her. She is a such an amazing person and we appreciate her support very much.
I could go on and on….really…everyone who came had something special to offer and were appreciated (like my mom who came and donated more than 20 skirts herself!) It was a great night and a great group of ladies.
Aside from the spirit of camaraderie that was there that night my favorite part was the mix of women that we had there working with us. We had both teenage girls and great grandmothers and every age and stage of life in between!
It was so fun to watch the teenagers selecting fabrics and trims to make skirts for other girls their age. And it was fabulous to watch women who’ve been sewing since before I was born whipping through the skirts with ease.
It was a sewing night to remember…and if you want to know the truth…it was totally my scene. I could have stayed all night. (And I’m already ready for another sewing night!) Good people, good location, good food, good sewing. That’s my kind of event!

Today is the last day to add any skirts you’ve made for Skirting the Issue into the linky party (or send us an email with a photo) to be entered into the drawing to win a brand new Babylock Elizabeth Sewing Machine (and some other terrific prizes).
We are excited to add up our numbers this weekend and announce the winners next week. This has been another great Skirting the Issue and we do appreciate all of your love and support. (As I said yesterday on our Facebook page, talking about the packages we’ve received in the mail, you ladies have overwhelmed and amazed me.) Thank you to everyone who has participated…we have noticed and we appreciate it.

Sounds like so much fun! I was tempted to go since I was in town visiting family, but our family reunion was starting that evening. It’s always great to sew with a group.
