(source)One of my favorite traditions as a child was Christmas breakfast. It was the one day of the year when we got to drink Grandma Ruth's hot chocolate or "French Chocolate" as we called it. There's absolutely nothing French about it....but I can promise you that it is absolutely delicious. We always had an egg casserole (an egg strata), cinnamon rolls and as much of this hot chocolate as we could drink; stirring it with candy canes and always leaving the table with ginormous chocolate ... $5 Christmas—Super Simple Scarves
Evening was upon us and there I was sitting on the floor working on a project that can't be shown (because it is for someone who I know checks in on me here at the blog) and listening to Simon read when I realized: I DIDN'T TAKE ANY PHOTOS FOR THIS POST!!!! So I grabbed the pile of unfinished scarves and headed for the front yard where the sun was setting and I used the last moments of light to snap this photo. And what a photo it is....half a dozen unfinished scarves hanging out in my frozen ... View the Post
Caps For Sale
In case you missed this a few weeks ago, we participated in Katy's Once Upon a Thread series and made these outfits based on this children's book that we love: The book Caps For Sale, by Esphyr Slodbodkina, is the story of a mustached peddler who wears his entire stock of caps on his head and strolls through towns and villages chanting, "Caps! Caps for sale! Fifty cents a cap!" One day, while napping under a tree all the caps are stolen by a troop of monkeys. The peddler orders them to return ... View the Post
$5 Christmas Dishtowel Apron Tutorial
Today I thought I'd share an easy $5 gift idea. I actually shared it a few weeks ago on a friends blog but am posting it over here today just in case anyone is like me and needs some last minute ideas. It's my favorite kind of apron---a dishtowel bar apron. I love it because it is a half apron (I like them best) and because it is made from a dishtowel it washes wonderfully and doesn't need to be ironed. (I'm one of those people who hates to iron so anytime I can avoid ... View the Post
A Cabo Christmas
I originally posted this on my family blog two years ago...and recently came across it. It is exactly what I needed to read today. As the weather turns cold and the Christmas preparations begin, I have been thinking back to one that wasn't like any other Christmas I had ever known. It was one that was hot, very hot, windy, dusty and wonderful.I was into the second Christmas of my mission and on a tiny African island in the middle of the sea where the people I served had little to any material ... $5 Christmas—Vintage Children’s Book Illustrations
I've always loved illustrations (Illustration was actually my major in college for awhile) and then if you add in the extra goodness of being vintage---it's like two of my favorite worlds collide. Which brings me to this project: Framed Vintage Illustrations. It's the easiest project ever. All you need is a an old book with awesome illustrations and some frames. (My book came from a thrift store for 75 cents and the frames came from the Dollar Store---making this project cost just under ... View the Post
