I usually do 4th of July outfits for the kids....or in past years it has been a dress for Hannah and then finding something that matched for Aaron. But, with two boys this 4th (yay!) I thought it might be fun to do another matchy-matchy type outfits. (They're only little for a few years....right?) And this year, I kind of wanted to go understated. I don't know why really....I just did. Probably, mostly so they would be outfits that they could all wear again without screaming "I am a 4th of ... View the Post
Boys Week + Thrifted Thursdays = Field Journals
Simon likes to collect and inspect weird things he finds outside like bugs, rocks, and these little beauties: (Anyone know what they are? Or will I have to just wait until they hatch inside the jar on my kitchen counter?) This summer I decided that when he makes his discoveries I will have him make a page about them at some point during that day. On the page I have him record things like what he found, where he found it, what he thinks things are or look like. Here he traced the ... View the Post
A Guest Post and Our Boys– Isaac’s Cargo Shorts
First of all, we are over at She Wears Flowers today. We love her blog! I have been reading it for some time now, and she has the best projects. Her felt cakes were some of the first things that I ever saw from her and they had me hooked. Check us out over there...for some FABRIC SCRAP BRACELETS. (Because we really do have more scraps than any human should have. Literally.) So, go there. NOW. And then come back...there is a boy's project today too. And here is the post for ... View the Post
Boys Week—A Display Shelf
Currently we are in the process of redoing bedrooms and trying to get all things settled and ready for the baby. This is a wall in Simon's room (which is almost finished).I want Simon to really love his room and want it to be a place that is all him. So to start we let him pick the paint colors. Sure, it's a little loud, but it's only one wall (although you should see what's on the others...)Next, we know that Simon loves to build and invent so we wanted some sort of shelving that we could ... A Harry Potter Party
Earlier this month, this guy turned 9....and requested a Harry Potter Party. This is him opening his one wanted gift---a "real" Harry Potter wand. You have to know one thing about me, I don't do huge parties. I know some people do, they go all out and have every detail down and perfect and lovely. And they are awesome.Well here's my problem. All of my children's birthdays fall on the first week of the month they are born in. And I always think about their party a month or so before, and ... View the Post
The Art of Homemaking—Spending Time With Our Boys
A few weeks ago I bought a book published in 1951 called "How Book of Cub Scouting". I'm not a scout leader nor do I have any boys in cub scouts (yet) but the book was old and kitchy and had some great old photos and illustrations. Then this week I opened it up and read the forward. Here is part of what is said: "Any father who wants to do something with his boy can find in this book ideas and suggestions. He and his boy will become real pals even if they do a few of the things suggested. With an ... View the Post
