Last week I was at a thrift store with Elizabeth when I found a set of 4 olive green vintage napkins for half off their $2.99 price tag. I instantly knew what I wanted to do with them and between that idea, their coolness, and the price, I just couldn't pass them up. The very next day I made Grace this skirt. I used two of the napkins. I cut the lace off of the two sides and sewed them together making the tube. Then I cut off the top fourth of the napkin to make it the right length. And ... View the Post
Spring Fever and $5 Friday: Dollar Store Edition
I was looking to "Springify" my home a bit....but I am just not wanting to put Easter out yet (it's so far away). So, the other day while perusing the dollar store (Dollar Tree) I found these....and decided to pick up a couple. I also grabbed 2 bunches of their hydrangeas (I can't find a picture online) and then used some spray paint I had and the hydrangeas to make 2 of these for the living room.....I also found this little bird that was cream with sand glued all over him. (His friend ... View the Post
$5 Friday: Cinderella’s Thermal Pajamas
So Grace loves all things princess. It's not really my thing so her obsession with it somewhat perplexes me. I've always been more of a make some mud pies and play with my brother's He-Man action figures kind of a girl. (I was even He-Man for Halloween a few years ago when I taught junior high...that's right I was "THE MASTER OF THE UNIVERSE!!!") But, I digress. And where was I? Oh, princesses. They aren't my thing but they are my daughters thing so we'll go with it. At bedtime she only wants ... View the Post
$ 5 Friday: Another 70’s Dress.
I gave the preview a couple of days ago and now it's finished. We had a FREEZING photo shoot, one cute and spunky girl, some balloons that were blowing everywhere.... and here are the results..... I used 1 yard of fabric from Hobby Lobby which was $4.76 and some of the scraps of white Kona cotton for the Peter Pan collar and the sleeve bands. I also took out the zipper in the back (why are zippers so expensive?) and used a trick that I learned a while back....I will share it next ... View the Post
Flour Sack Nightie
I love flour sacks. They feel clean and crisp and old all at the same time. And because I love them I am always trying to think of ways that I can use them. This is what I came up with recently...some new night gowns for my little girl. (She loves night gowns as much as I love flour sacks.) Here's what I did: I roughly traced the outline of a favorite nightgown onto some butcher paper. Then I got rid of the sleeves and added few inches over the shoulders to make straps that would button. ... View the Post
$5 Friday…Embellished Pillowcases
The other day I discovered that the Dollar Store now sells pillowcases. And after watching Fantastic Mr. Fox (one of my favorites) I felt like whipping some foxy pillowcases for our weekly Friday Night Family Camp Out.So $1 pillowcases plus fabric from the scrap bin equals this week's $5 Friday project.PS...About the quality of the pillowcases...not the highest...they will work for laying around on the floor in a pile of blankets and eating popcorn..but maybe not for the guest bedroom...just so ...
