I have been telling a certain 6 year old that I wanted to teach her to do some simple embroidery stitches (I only know simple) and yesterday she came to me with an embroidery hoop and a needle and said she wanted to learn. The problem was that I had about 15 minutes before starting dinner, was in the middle of folding laundry, and had an 18 month old running around unfolding laundry as fast as I could fold it....and it just wasn't a good time. But, I stopped. Took a breath. Looked at the ... View the Post
The Art of Homemaking: Facet No.2 Another A
Alright, before I move on to Facet No. 2 I need to report on Facet No. 1. (Facet No. 1 is "The Two A's": Attitude and Appearance.) I better start off by saying, Hi, my name is liZ and I'm a pajama-aholic. I'm trying to fight it but right now I'm loosing the battle. I've been doing the get up and get ready first thing everyday just like Mrs. Hoole says---and that's cool but most days I just get up, put on a clean pair of...um...shall we call them yoga pants?...and a t-shirt then do my hair ... The Art of Homemaking—Week 4: My life is like a pack of cookies
So I am in week 4 of my Art of Homemaking Experiment. These past 2 weeks I've been working on my attitude and appearance.Let me explain how things are going by telling a story.Earlier this week I bought Grace a package of Grandma's Chocolate cookies just after Simon went to school. One for me and one for Simon!"Grace ate her cookie and then put the other cookie on the table and announced that she was going to save ... View the Post
Heroes of Homemaking (at least to me they are…)
(The dishes the morning after a baby shower. Note here that I didn't take one picture at the shower---shameful---but I did take a picture of the dishes a day later ;) Liz is usually our resident expert of homemaking around here, but when I posted this post about sewing, I said I'd later share some thoughts about how I have learned (and continue to learn) about overcoming the mundane tasks of running a house and raising kids. But let's face some facts here. My house doesn't always ... View the Post
Life Lessons From the Sewing Machine
This dress was one of my Christmas presents this year....and it truly was one of my favorite gifts. It was a dress my mom wore in the late 50's as a junior bridesmaid. And since I am the sewer in the family (lucky me) she gave it to me. Sorry, if it looks a bit big on the dress form, it is. The dress is about a girls size 12 or so and it's pinned on a dress form that is a girls' size 6.My mom got this dress (and she even remembers that it cost around $40---a ton of money) as part of a bridal ... HELP ME!!!
This is a shameless call for help. I'm having a problem with my laundry and I'm wondering...All of my husband's (and Simon's) shirts keep coming out of the washing machine like this. All their collars look like giant vampire fangs after a feed.(And I don't even like vampire's...but don't get me started on that.)Here are the facts:The white shirts go into the machine white. The shirts come out with the collar tips (and only the collar tips) coming out looking like they've been burned. What is this ...
