Hexagon Wreath Tutorial

We shared this tutorial a couple of weeks ago on The Crafting Chicks website, but you still have time to make a few before Christmas!  And, if  you are anything like me these days you are spending half the day in carpool lines and/or lessons or appointments with your kiddos....so you can take some craft supplies with you in the car. This tutorial is for a form of quilting called English Paper Piecing but don't be afraid of the title...it is a super simple form of handstitching or sewing ... View the Post

On the Go Bags Book Review

Are you as much of a "bag lady" as I am?  I love bags. And not just purses....I just love bags.  I feel like I am constantly carrying a million things around and liZ and I are always trading stuff with different bags that go back and forth to each of our houses. I even have a whole shelf in the mud room devoted to bags.  Most of which are sad and not-so-cute and could definitely use an upgrade. So, recently when we were given the opportunity to review a fun new handmade book called On-the-Go ... View the Post

Great Books To Give (and Receive) for Christmas

I love that quote.  I have it hanging in our family work room. And I believe it...stories are like magic.  They can teach lessons, change moods, preserve histories, and help us see things from a different perspective. My husband says if given the choice to buy food or books I'd choose books every time. (And he is right!  Books last ... View the Post

Courthouse Steps (Quilt Block of the Month)

The Quilt Block of the Month of December is the Courthouse Steps.  This is a great block for those just beginning to try their hand at patchwork and is still and enjoyable block to create for even the most experienced of quilters. The Courthouse Steps Block is actually a version of the Log Cabin Block which enjoyed its rise to fame in the United States during the civil war and has been a staple in the world of quilting ever since.  Like the Log Cabin the Courthouse Steps block is built around ... N-Tune with Monster

Over the past six months we have worked really hard at carving out individual spaces for each of our children here at the house.  We have been feeling like they have each needed a spot to call their own...where they could be alone to study, read, draw, glue, write, paint, etc.  One of the things that we have done to facilitate this is to create a room where each child has a wall to decorate as they wish and at which they have a desk stocked with items of their choice...scissors, paper, pencils, ...
