The Art of Homemaking

The Things That Matter Most…(An Art of Homemaking Post)

Yesterday I shared a story over on our Facebook page about my melt down last week.... I had finally put out a rug that I had been saving since Christmas last year and in less than 24 hours my oldest child had spilled chocolate pudding all over it.  Between the ruined new rug and everything else that had been going on and was coming up that week (a family funeral, viewing, luncheon, Halloween, making costumes, meetings, deadlines, obligations, etc.) it was more than I could handle and I turned ... Quilt Block of the Month· Quilting

Quilt Block of the Month–String Quilt Block (Part 1)

It's the first Monday of the month and we are continuing our Quilt Block of the Month Tutorial and this month is one of my absolute favorites for using up scraps. Today I am showing the quilt block itself and then on Wednesday I will show you how to  complete the mini quilt using 4 string blocks. Reflections on Halloween

You will be reading this in the morning....or at least in the daylight...but I am writing this at night. It's dark and everyone at my house is in bed and asleep.  And me, I'm so tired. It's been a long few weeks around here.  I won't bore you with the details of funerals, home remodel disasters, or my dogs anxiety issues but I will say that I really am tired.  To the core. So tonight as I sit here thinking about Halloween and the upcoming costume making marathon that will begin tomorrow ... View the Post

November Holidays

Alright people! I'm taking your advice.....several of you have requested through emails and comments that you would like me to post the monthly holidays a few days before each month begins instead of after the month has already started. So, since November will be starting in a few days here is a list of the days to celebrate next month. ... View the Post

Quilt Block of the Month

Quilt Block of the Month–The HST Pumpkin Quilt Block

I am super super late this month, but I still wanted to share our October Quilt Block of the month...a pumpkin quilt block made easy...out of half-square triangles and squares!  And it is great for scrap busting. And if you don't have time to make it for Halloween it would be perfect for a Thanksgiving project as well. ... View the Post
