Vintage Ruth

A few months ago my mom found this sweet dress in an antique shop and it was just Ruth's size. The dress was 100% handmade and the craftsmanship is phenomenal!  Look at all of those pin tucks. I know that in today's world cutting corners, just getting it out there, speed, and disposable everything is the norm...but when I see work like this I think we are missing out...missing out on something important. The time, the love, the skill that was used to create this dress is phenomenal and ... View the Post

The Art of Homemaking: Because you are enough….

A few weeks ago, I was overwhelmed.  In the middle of a move and at my wits end.  And it seems like at those times in my life, I start dropping those giant balls of motherhood that we all juggle.  And as those balls were falling to the ground I started to tell myself I wasn't good enough.  And those tiny thoughts snowballed into "I am a horrible mother, I can't do anything right....." One night I had a good cry/prayer session and the thought came to my head and heart. "you are doing your ... View the Post

Books for My Grandparents….Because I wanted them to know…

I am a lucky girl.  A very lucky girl. I was basically raised with two sets of parents...my parents and my grandparents... I've always been close to my grandparents...and for that I feel most fortunate...there has never been an important event that they have missed in my entire life...ever...everything from proms to graduations to hospital stays to birthdays...they have always been there.  (Like I said, I am one lucky girl.)  I talk to them everyday...how many people get that chance?  Not ... The Starboard Dress

Today we are celebrating Spring with Jo-Ann National Craft Month!  The idea was to choose a Spring trend and then make something inspired by that trend--radiant orchid, nautical, geometric, and floral.  I decide on the nautical trend mostly because I love the colors that are all-things nautical.  Here was my inspiration photo.... photo credit: Jo-Ann Here is my take on Nautical this Spring.... The Starboard skirt updated to a cute Spring Dress! For the bodice I used the Basic Bodice pattern ... View the Post

Using Polka Dots for Embroidery Design Mapping

Today I am sharing three skirts...all of which were started OVER A YEAR AGO...and just recently were finished! I've enjoyed embroidering on clothing forever (like on these baby undershirts and this dress) but a long while back I started thinking about how fun it would be to embroider on polka dot fabric and use the dots as a template or map for where the embroidering should go. So back when the idea was fresh in my mind I cut out these skirts and got to work...and I finished embroidering them ... View the Post

Birthday Cake Quilt Block

Today we get to share in a Birthday party with our friend Amber of Crazy Little Projects.  You should see all the darling birthday ideas that are being shared.....be sure to head over there and pin some for your next party.  And today I am sharing my Birthday cake quilt. I am kind of obsessed with the idea of making a quilt to use for birthdays.  Wouldn't it be so fun to wake up on your birthday to a snuggly quilt?  I think it would be so fun.  So, I started with one block.  And now I think I am ...
