Skirting the Issue Week 4: Dolls (Why & Where to Donate)

I told you a couple of weeks ago about how the kids and I spent our first official week of summer making skirts to send with a friend who was going to volunteer at an orphanage in the Congo.    When I first heard about the orphange and the kids ages, I immediately wanted to make some dolls for the little girls there.  But realizing how late I was to the deadline....I knew that I couldn't get as many dolls done as I could skirts.  So, skirts it was for that project! But I still wanted to make ... A No-Sew Polar Fleece Blanket Tutorial

Ruth has had 2 scheduled trips to the hospital this year.  Both times I was a nervous wreck. Both times her procedures were simple but I still cried both times when they took her away from me.  And both times Ruth struggled with coming to from the anesthesia. It was rough...like night terror screaming for extended periods of time in the recovery room with 3 nurses helping us to hold her and keep her safe and breathing rough. The last time we were at the hospital they were prepared for us ... View the Post

Skirting the Issue: A Blanket Tutorial

Years ago, I sat in a hospital room with Hannie who was 18 months old at the time.  She had gotten a horrible stomach virus and wasn't keeping anything down for days.  I remember when I took her into the doctor they sent us straight to the hospital.  It was a scary 24 hours....and I vividly remember she didn't even flinch when they stuck the IV needle in her.  That was the moment I knew she was pretty sick. After a couple of hours on IV's she began to stabilize and I could see the coloring ... View the Post

Giveaway

On flying…..

Over the summer, I have decided that we need to do one "special" thing a day.  Something that is not chores, or homework but just a way to build some memories.  We have done some science experiments (like baking soda volcanoes) and some art projects but other days our "special" time has been popping popcorn and eating it on a blanket in the loft while watching a movie.  Recently, the kids and I had the opportunity to see the trailer for Disney's Planes, coming to theaters August 9.  As a family ...
