A Tape Tree Painting Tutorial and Where to Look for Clouds

Hello! Today we are over at Kojo Designs participating in Kirstin and Delia's annual series "Color Your Summer".  We chose the color white again this year but decided to mix things up a little bit and share an art project instead of a sewing one this time.  (Just when you thought you knew us....)Summer means a lot of things around our house but one of those things is definitely art, art, and more art!  I've been teaching community summer art camps since before Simon was born and it's just become ... Indian Summer Quilt Along–Cutting Your Fabric

I first starting making a quilt when my oldest was just a baby.  I was looking for something to do every day that couldn't be undone and I saw a lady at church who had made a beautiful faux chenille quilt for her grandbaby.  So, I got up enough nerve to ask her to show me how to do it, borrowed my mother-in-law's sewing machine, went and bought fabric and made one.  I think it was the worst thing I have ever made---but I was so proud of it.  Yes, the seams were wonky, the binding looked so bad ... Clothes Pin People

When Elizabeth and I were making our Princess and the Pea projects I ran to the craft store to look for some felted wool balls...which I had never before purchased and had no idea where to find them.  So while I was wandering from aisle to aisle I ran across packages of old fashioned wooden clothes pins and decided to buy a pack.   Later that night Grace and I turned them into clothes pin people. We each painted our own. I started off with two casual girls for summer. And I finished with 3 ... View the Post

Indian Summer Quilt Along!

One of the questions that I have been getting lately is where would I begin if I wanted to make a quilt?  Well, next week we are going to spend Monday, Wednesday and Friday showing you how to make a quilt top.  It should be a fun week....and if you can't sew along, it will still be a good reference for when you do feel like quilting. I pinky promise the pattern is easy (me and my old-school graph paper made it...you bet it's easy).  And you will essentially be learning how to make a simple ... View the Post

The Princess and the Pea Necklace Tutorial

"ONCE upon a time there was a prince who wanted to marry a princess; but she would have to be a real princess. He travelled all over the world to find one, but nowhere could he get what he wanted. There were princesses enough, but it was difficult to find out whether they were real ones." ~Hans Christian Anderson We have been playing Princess and the Pea around here lately....and as fun as the story is I do think that there is an important underlying theme.  No, it's not that they are going to ...
