Easy Skirt Banner Tutorial and Riley Blake Giveaway!

Today is Riley Blake Day!  HoOrAy! (We love Riley Blake Day.) And today Elizabeth and I had several (thousand) things that we wanted to share but we managed to narrow it down to two different tutorials.  I'll be sharing mine here and Elizabeth will be sharing hers over at Riley Blake.  (Go check it out.  It's super cute!) Here's what what we're doing: We don't need to tell you that one of our favorite things to make are skirts, skirts, and more skirts. Skirts are the perfect project for ... View the Post

Hair Therapy and $1,000 Sweepstakes

"Genius is of small use to a woman who does not know how to do her hair."-Edith WhartonI've always had a complicated relationship with my hair. I think that I've tried almost every hair style ever invented:  bleached, dyed (brown, black, and purple), long to my waist, short to above my chin, permed, dreaded, braided, curled, waved, straight, crimped, and ratted.  And I've got the pictures to prove it...but fortunately for you I'll save the gory details (and photos) for another time.  Suffice it ... Dresses· Girls· sewing

A Back to School Peasant Dress.

It is still hot as blazes here....but we needed a new and quick back to school dress.  So a 30 minute peasant dress and some Old Navy leggings did the job perfectly.  I cut the dress a bit longer, shirred 4 or 5 rows to make it drop-waisted and added a ribbon on top and we were done!P.S.  Liz and I are still recovering from our craft market-experience which went so well.  We promise to tell you all about it soon.A huge thank you to all of you who came and introduced yourselves..... we get a ... $5 Friday—By the time you read this…

By the time you read this Elizabeth and I will be knee deep in the mother of all craft fairs. Hopefully I'll have the rest of these skirts (in the picture above) finished...I still have lots of elastic to thread. Right now it's, well it's late late late Thursday night...and I need to get back to work. Only a few hours left until go time. Wish us luck. liZ PS---I think these skirts are my favorite thing we made for this weekend...I went a little crazy and made piles of iron on ... View the Post

Thrifted Thursdays

Thrifted Thursday. A Vintage Yo-Yo Quilt.

I found this spectacular quilt at at thrift store this summer and was so immediately drawn to it.  It is so beautiful and just about everything I love wrapped into one fabric package.  Vintage fabrics, simple repetitive-style, great colors, and textural appeal--everything I love about sewing--this baby has got it all.The yo-yos are perfectly sewn together. And the fabrics are just. plain. awesome. It is to date my favorite find ever.P.S.  We finished setting up our booth last night....and it was a ... Wicked

So I guess this post is as close as I'll ever come to a "What I Wore Wednesday"... I bought this shirt over the summer when Elizabeth and I made our day trip over to the LA Fashion district.  I kind of love it but haven't had a reason to wear it until last week when I went to see Wicked. I hadn't ever seen Wicked (I know...I'm behind the times) but it was really great.  I loved the story, the set, and the costumes...dude...I LOVED the costumes.  They had this great steam punk/ 80's vibe...and ...
