The Art of Homemaking

The Art of Homemaking

"An ideal homemaker is lovely to look at and lovely to be around--she has a wholesome attitude and a pleasing appearance. She has the courage to be happy and strives to live above the faults of moodiness, sulkiness, and complaining. She is gracious and thoughtful and is consequently adored by her family and admired by all who know her." ---Daryl V. Hoole (The Art of Homemaking 1967) ... View the Post

Something a Little Scary for $5 Friday the 13th

Are you ready for this??? It's big. It's scary. And it cost less $5... IT'S LIZ IN HER GIANT MATERNITY PAJAMA PANTS! AAAAAAAUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! I told you it was big and scary. But what I didn't tell you is that these pajama pants are AWESOME!!! I made them out of a vintage sheet. Vintage sheets are so soft and wonderful. I feel like I'm all snuggled into bed when I wear them. It's pregnancy heaven. Remember back here when I was making other items out of vintage sheets? ... View the Post

The Cotton Candy Skirt–A New Tulle Skirt

Some of you got a sneak peek at this skirt when I accidently posted this on Monday instead of scheduling it--oops. Well, here it is for real! Ever since making the $5 tulle skirt last Spring, it has been a staple piece of clothing in our house. But, unfortunately my 5 year-old is growing like a weed...and it was time for a new tulle skirt. "A big fluffy one" were my orders. So, we have the new tulle skirt--which has been cleverly (or not so cleverly) nicknamed "The Cotton Candy Skirt" by ... View the Post

Maternity Shirts to My Little Girls Skirts–A How To…

The time has come... ...for my maternity clothes... Don't ask me "how many weeks along" I am---I can never remember. All I know is that #1. I'm excited about the baby, #2. I'm due at the beginning of September, and #3. I need to start wearing real clothes again and not just pajama pants and my husbands sweatshirts.   So the other day I pulled out the bins. And wanted to cry. Not because I'm all big and round (which I am) but because my clothes were all so ugly and old and dated and I ... View the Post

Photography

A Photo Session.

A couple weeks ago I signed up for a blogger's photography class by Emilie.  The class was this last weekend and it was amazing.  I really needed some more help getting all the way off auto and all the way to manual mode on my camera.  Really. Needed. Help. And I am so glad I went. I learned a lot more about light--specifically how to find and make soft directional light--and how to make your blog photos look great in MANUAL mode.  Here's the picture that we staged and then took in manual ... Happy Mother’s Day

Way back in February I was out thrift store hopping with Elizabeth when I ran across an entire set of these dishes! I couldn't believe my luck. Not only are they beautiful, and it was a complete set, but my mom collects them. I snatched them up at once. And yesterday I gave them to my mom for Mother's Day (minus the cupcakes which were devoured soon after this photos was taken by a couple of little girls I know.....) I love my mom. I love her mom. And I love her mom's mom whom I'm named after ... View the Post
