Exactly 6 months ago we adopted Fred from a local animal shelter. He wasn't the dog we were looking for...but when I saw his mangy face looking out at me from a sea of yapping Chihuahuas I knew he was the dog for us. I originally wanted to get a dog to help my youngest who has a hard time communicating...but after living with Fred for awhile I realized it wasn't just our youngest who Fred helped...he helped my middle child who was feeling, well, like a middle child by giving her much ... Teach the One: It Takes A Village (and Patience)
This month as we have been talking about "Teaching the One" to sew I started thinking about my own sewing journey. My Grandma tried to instill in me a love for quilting as I was growing up with her numerous quilts spread across her mothers quilt frames...that I enjoyed using for forts...and not learning moments. My Home Ec teacher tried to teach me proper techniques but...eventually had to kick me out of the class when I was far more interested in goofing off than in sewing. My Mom ... View the Post
They always wake up a day older…
The other day my four year old and I were sitting at the table and eating snacks. I was sipping a soda and he was munching on a bowl of Pepperidge Farm® Goldfish® crackers... something we've both been doing for years. He was telling me all about his field trip to the farm the day before and did I realize how stinky the pigs really were, and how there was a baby horse that lives with the goats and how hilarious that was....and it was one of those mornings that I want to remember. Just one of ... View the Post
Sewing Snippets
Happy Wednesday! I can't believe that April is almost gone...it has seriously flown by. And here comes May...full of last day of school events and all its business. Things are probably seeming a little quieter around here but I can assure you that if you were behind the scenes with us, it would look a little like crazy town, because that's what it is. So, here's what we are doing this week: *Unpacking from SNAP. SNAP deserves its own post and I promise one is coming...because it was ... View the Post
The Day I Thought I Was Wearing Pants When I Really Wasn’t
So here's a story. I've been a bit under the weather and have been for awhile. I'm having a few issues with my blood levels that is making it hard for my body to regulate things like my body temperature and energy levels. I'm not complaining. In fact, I am full of hope. As you read this I'm probably in the hospital getting some IV treatments that I've been waiting for for what seems like an eternity and I am hopeful that they will help. Now, I'm not tell telling you this so that you ... View the Post
17 Tips for Communicating with Kids
A few months ago I wrote a post called: 25 Ways to Ask Your Kid's "How Was School Today?" Without Asking Them "So How Was School Today?". I wrote it late one night after a conversation with my husband about our son growing up and my determination to keep the lines of communication open with him. It was a list of questions that I actually started asking him and found success with. To say that I was taken back by the response it received is an understatement. The amount of page views that ...
