Girl’s Guide to DIY Fashion Book

Several weeks ago Rachel from Pins and Needles  asked if we like to receive a copy of her new book, Girl's Guide to DIY Fashion (affiliate link)  and since I have a 10-year old who is wanting to learn to sew quite badly, I thought it would be the perfect way to get some sewing lessons in this summer. And it has been!  The first couple of weeks we had the book I was super busy with deadlines so Hannie read, and planned all the things that she wanted to make first.  I even found her up late one ... Where Art and Science Collide

Today we are over at The Crafting Chicks making some fun summer cloud paintings during their super fun weather science series for kids. Head on over THERE to join in all the fun! And in the meantime.... The kids talked me into making a "science" video with one of their favorite experiments.  Grace set the stage on the table in our entry way and Simon walked me through the steps like 3 times. The video isn't great, it's totally homemade but the kids love it....and it really is a ... View the Post

My New Monster!

Recently I was asked if I would like to try out Monsters new Superstar Speakers. And I thought about it.... But I'm not very techy...but I do love music...but I'm not very techy... And although I was excited to get them...and even though I listen to music everyday...the box just sat there on my shelf waiting to be opened. Because, like ... View the Post

August 2015 Holidays

Now that we are back to our "regularly scheduled programming" I'm torn about what to post today....It's Tuesday so it should be an Art of Homemaking post BUT it's also the beginning of the month so I need to post the holidays for the month...but since I'm knee deep in house hold projects and my house looks like a war zone I think I feel more comfortable listing the days to celebrate this month :)  So let's get started! ... Quilt Block of the Month: Shoo-Fly Block

It's the first Monday of the month again...and that means that it is time for our Quilt Block of the Month Tutorial. This month we are focusing on Shoo-fly quilt block which is a simple and quick quilt block to make.  Many quilt histories say that the Shoo-Fly quilt block originated in the mid-1800's and was sometimes called "hole in barn door" quilt block.  It was named after the "hole in the middle of the quilt block" or the place where flies could easily get in the house.  Some other quilt ... When You See the North Star

Last week when Elizabeth and I were in Sioux City making skirts for Skirting the Issue we met a remarkable women who had fostered more children than she could count.  (Her first foster child just turned 44.) She told us a lot of stories about her children and how fostering changed her life...in small ways...and in large ways...(she adopted 4 of her foster children).  And we drank in her goodness. But then she told us something that changed my life.  She told us "the secret" to foster ... View the Post
