A Five Minute Pillowcase How To and A Riley Blake Fabric Giveaway!

Ok...maybe it's a 15 or 20 minute pillowcase if you count the time it takes to cut it out. But I swear it's crazy easy and in honor of the first annual National Serger Month I used a serger to make it.  (I actually don't have a serger of my own but I borrowed my moms for this project and it was AWESOME!!!  Now I need to start saving up for one of my own!) ***NOTE***Since publishing this post I now have a baby lock Evolution serger of my own...it is AMAZING...and I have used it to put together ... The Art of Homemaking: Because they deserve my best

When liZ and I went to hear Daryl Hoole give a homemaking talk last fall, one of the things she said that night stuck out to me as if it were written in a neon, blinking billboard across my forehead.  It was the phrase... "Children deserve your best, not what is leftover."I have been thinking about that thought a lot lately...and have changed it to "my family deserves my best, not what is leftover." I am not sure what it is like at your house, but just about the time the big kids come home from ... View the Post

The Art of Homemaking—Looking Inside and Making a Change

"Your vision will become clear only when you can look into your heart.  Who looks outside, dreams, who looks inside, awakes."---Carl Jung  Three or four years ago when we started this blog one of the first things I started consistently posting about was "The Art of Homemaking".  These posts were sparked by the second hand copy of a book entitled "The Art of Homemaking" written in the 1960's that I purchased for the kitchy illustrations but fell in love with when I read the words. That led me to ... Up Coming Events

Hey.We have a few things coming up that we've been needing to talk about but haven't. So we thought today would be a good day to just announce everything and do it all at once.   Let's go in order starting with what's coming up first.SNAP Last year Elizabeth and I were able to attend the SNAP conference and had a great time meeting so many fun ladies in person.  So this year when we had the opportunity teach a class there we jumped at the chance.  Our class will be on the afternoon of the 20th ... Quilt· Thoughts

A Pinwheel Quilt and some thoughts…

“Nobody starts out a perfect quilter.” ― Sandra Dallas When my oldest was a baby and I had quit my teaching job, I needed something to do.  Then one Sunday I saw a beautiful baby quilt at church that one of the older ladies in my neighborhood had made, so I asked her to show me how to make one.  It was my first taste of sewing again and my very first taste of quilting.... I have done a few simple strip-quilts over the years, but found myself more drawn to sewing apparel.  But late last ... View the Post
