‘Tis the Season {to be sewing}

Today we are starting the holidays a bit around here at Simple Simon and Co.  First up are some reusable gift bags over at Riley Blake Designs. Head HERE to see how to make some simple drawstring bags for under your tree this year. And if you are coming here from Riley Blake, then you are here to see the Gift tag tutorial..... Here's what you will need to make the Reusable Gift tags: * Tags patterns found HERE * 5 x5 inches of fabric (cut 2 pieces per tag) * 1.5 x 4 inch piece of vinyl (buy ... View the Post

Buffalo Gals: The Happy Camper and the Final Round-Up

Here's how it goes.... I found Simon's old hiking boots in the basement and thought they might fit Grace....and they will...in about 2 years... However, somehow she became convinced that she needed to wear them to have her picture taken in with these shorts.  And on top of that she needed to wear her white knee highs instead of the tights I bought her to match. It's not what I had envisioned but the point of the whole collection was to have Grace be able to mix and match items that we grouped ... View the Post

Buffalo Gals Look Book: Old Faithful

 When I was little I had a poncho...a peach poncho so when I started putting this look together I wanted to make one for Grace. I started with a vintage pattern...and then changed the shape...and then changed the length...and then added a lining....and when I was finished it is NOTHING like what I started with...but I like it. I like how it fits and lays.  I also like the vintage polyester outside and the warm fuzzy flannel lining.  I think that I'll put together a tutorial for making one ... View the Post

Buffalo Gals: The Park Ranger

Is this bow insane? Yes.  Yes it is. But it wasn't my idea, it was all hers. I actually bought this scarf to be A SCARF with another one of Gracie's outfits...however...she thinks it's supposed to be a ginormous bow...so I just went with it. Working our way down, Gracie has on a white hand-me-down blouse from Hannah worn with a vest that I made from the same heavy knit I used in her Claim Jumper look. As for the skirt I made it from the same vintage polyester I used for Gracie's ... View the Post

Buffalo Gals Look Book: The Audubon Society

 If there is something I love as much as vintage polyester is has to be VINTAGE VELVET!!! I scored almost 2 yards of this stretch rust colored velvet at a thrift store I stopped at on the way up to Yellowstone this summer.  And guess how much it cost---$1.00! Best thrift store find ever! (Ok, maybe not ever, but it's up there!) And while Grace's Don't Feed the Bears look is my favorite in the Buffalo Gals Look Book this one is Grace's.  She wore it first and has worn it the most.  She thinks ... View the Post

Buffalo Gals Look Book: The Claim Jumper

 Awhile back I found a CRAZY 80's pattern for this jumper at a thrift store...and I bought it...and I forgot about until this summer when I was going through my pattern pile. Even though it is a shorts pattern I knew I wanted to make it for Grace to wear this fall and winter. They just look like winter shorts to me. (Whatever the heck winter shorts look like.) So I made them and followed the instructions almost exactly. I'm pretty satisfied with the results. I like the neckline in the front, ... View the Post
