A How to Make A Skirt with Fringe Tutorial

A How to make a skirt with fringe tutorial: I warned you that there would be more crazy t-shirt projects coming. And I wasn't kidding. So here's another one...a fringed skirt for Grace. I've been wanting to make one of these for awhile now...see I had this shirt when I was in elementary school with fringe and dude, it was AWESOME! I bought it at Knott's Berry Farm (so right there it's already cool) and it was a black tank top with a fringed hem line (more coolness) and then in hot pink ... View the Post

The Art of Homemaking: Deadlines (Because Schedules Just Aren’t Tough Enough)

Here's the thing...I tried to make a schedule I really did....but...it didn't work.In college I had a professor who chewed me out for being too much of a "free spirit"...and I was, and am...it's hard for me to stick to a schedule because if I think of an idea I usually go and do it...right then...no matter what else is going on.  For instance while I'm sewing I might decide that now is a great time to help Gracie make a butterfly painting I just thought of or while I'm sweeping I remember that ... $5 Friday

$5 Friday–Another T-shirt skirt

I have mentioned this before, but I have a six-and a half year old who is getting into sewing---which completely warms my heart.  She and I sewed up this little t-shirt skirt from 2 dollar store tees a week or so ago. She did the casing, threaded the elastic through it, sewed it together and closed the casing--all.by.herself. And I got the lovely assistant job of trying to make her vision come to life with the small rows of ruffles on the "h" (which was quite the task). Even the styling is ... View the Post

Thrifted Thursday: On Mending….

Today I pulled out a dress Elizabeth bought last summer a thrift store.  I love it.  But it's damaged.Where the tears are combined with the type of fabric means that the mending is going to require my least favorite kind of sewing---hand-stitching.  Bleck.  Why do things have to wear out, break down, or loose their polish?  I want the dress but it's going to take something I lack a lot of----patience---to get the dress back into wearable condition.  Wouldn't it just be easier to hack it up and ... A Ruffled Collar Tutorial

In case you missed this a couple of weeks ago at see kate sew's RUFFLES 2012....One thing that we love over at Simple Simon and Co is taking simple, vintage, classic children's clothing and adding a touch of a modern to them.  And luckily, today's project is no exception.  It's a simple A-line vintage jumper pattern, but made a bit more modern with the addition of a smart, little ruffled collar. For the pattern, I used this little vintage beauty in my stash.....but there are A-line jumper ... SNAP…We Came Out of Hiding…Partially.

So over the weekend Elizabeth and I made some real progress.  As you may or may not know we are chronic recluses.  We love to be home...with our kids...in our pajamas....sewing...which lends itself nicely to blogging right?  Right.  Now, where was I?  Oh...reclusivity...it's our little secret.Or maybe it's not so secret. As we found out this weekend our, shall we say, "problem" preceeds us.Let me explain. This weekend we attended:(Which wasn't held in our homes...and that we didn't wear our ...
