More Onesie Embellishments

Last month I got to share a baby project over at Delia Creates for her Nesting series.  (She's had her baby by the way---and she's beautiful.)  But I never posted it over here... ...and since my baby Ruth has been sick with a fever for the past 4 days I haven't sewn much. So today I'm re sharing these...which isn't a bad thing...and anytime I can talk about baby Ruth I'm a happy mom.   So here she is: Five months ago I had Ruth.  Bald, beautiful, blue-eyed baby Ruth.  I'm in love. I'm ... View the Post

A Nautical Dress {made from the thrift store}

I literally squealed inside when I found this skirt below at the thrift store.  It was love at first hanger-pull, because I have been on the lookout for a pleated 80's rayon goodness skirt for a while now.At first I wanted the skirt all.to.myself.  (Ok.  Being honest, I still do.) I envisioned cutting off the top....cinching it in a bit and making a knee-length nautical skirt for me.  But when I brought her home and realized that the pleated part would be well above my knees (darn) I decided it ... $5 Friday· Girls· sewing

$5 Friday—Pshhhh—I don’t even know what to call this—

Here's the story....the other night I was chopping up some T-shirts for a project when all I had left over was the cropped top of a grey one.Grace was working on a project next to me.She thought the shirt was funny.One thing led to another and now she is wearing it like some crazy Flashdance fanatic.Yes...I'm letting her keep and wear it.  Yes it is in fact just a t-shirt that has been hacked off at the armpits.The only other thing I did was sew in a casing for some elastic around the arms ... Thrifted Thursday—Spools

My mom found these awesome wooden spools at a garage sale and brought them to me.  Can I tell you how much I adore her?I am in love with them.  The colors, the spools....and really everything about them.  I kept pressing her for what more there was at the garage sale that she could have bought----sewing or notions-wise.  But these were it.Nonetheless an amazing find.  Especially for the $4 she paid for them.  Thanks mom!Any amazing sewing deals in your thrifting excursions lately?I tried to go ... A Guest Post and An Important Requested Link

#1.  A Guest Post: Today we are over at Kojo Designs participating in their Sewing for Me series. Believe it or not we do enjoy sewing for ourselves and not just our children. (Although you might not be able to tell it from our blog---several of you have noticed the lack of any photographic evidence that either of us actually exist---so until we get over our aversion to cameras you'll just have to trust that we do indeed exist and that we enjoy sewing for ourselves.  Consider it an exercise ... A Bubble Skirt Tutorial

Or maybe the title of this post should be "how the Vintagely Modern Skirt became a Bubble Skirt." For this skirt I took The Vintagely Modern Skirt tutorial and made it a bubble skirt (or you can use any fuller skirt pattern, for that matter). Here's what you need: *your skirt material (I used about 1 1/4 yards of Kona cotton in "Butter Yellow" for a girls size 6) *your skirt lining material (I used just about a half yard) *matching thread *button (or elastic if you want an ...
