A Green Vintage Dress

I finished up this dress over the weekend and am quite happy with it.  Maybe because it's green and I am longing for warmer weather, or because it's a different take on a vintage dress than I usually do (I am trying to branch out) but it was a quick and fun project to work on.The dress came from this vintage pattern below, although the pattern is a size 6 and my 6 year old needs about a size 2/3 in vintage patterns so I basically used it as inspiration and made up my own.  I pretty much stayed ... If you are in the neighborhood….

My neighbor and friend, Jessica has two nieces from the same family who are currently undergoing chemotherapy at the same time.  I can't even imagine one child, let alone these two girls going through it at the same time.  Their story is amazing. Here is what their website says... "Tyler and Elisabeth Fish and their children are going through an extraordinarily emotional and financially draining experience and are in need of help. Natalie (8) has been ill since she was 2, seeing doctors and ... View the Post

Happy National Tortilla Chip Day (I Swear I’m Not Making This Up)

Oh Tortilla Chips. How do I love thee? Let me count the ways... I love tortilla chips and today just happens to be National Tortialla Chip day. (No, I'm not making this day up....like the time I told everyone it was MC Hammer Appreciation Day or the time I claimed it was National Peg Your Pants Day or when I said it was Poke Someone in the Eye Day or...well...it's none of those times...this one is ligit...in fact it's too ligit to quit hey! hey!...ok, I'll stop.) So...tortilla chips.  ... View the Post

Life Lessons From the Sewing Machine

This dress was one of my Christmas presents this year....and it truly was one of my favorite gifts.  It was a dress my mom wore in the late 50's as a junior bridesmaid.  And since I am the sewer in the family (lucky me) she gave it to me.  Sorry, if it looks a bit big on the dress form, it is.  The dress is about a girls size 12 or so and it's pinned on a dress form that is a girls' size 6.My mom got this dress (and she even remembers that it cost around $40---a ton of money) as part of a bridal ... HELP ME!!!

This is a shameless call for help.  I'm having a problem with my laundry and I'm wondering...All of my husband's (and Simon's) shirts keep coming out of the washing machine like this. All their collars look like giant vampire fangs after a feed.(And I don't even like vampire's...but don't get me started on that.)Here are the facts:The white shirts go into the machine white. The shirts come out with the collar tips (and only the collar tips) coming out looking like they've been burned. What is this ... Peter Pan Collar Tutorial

I have been dreaming about this project for a while and then, when I saw THIS I knew it was time to do something about it and make some removable peter pan collars for all sorts of outfits. First things first, I LOVE peter pan collars.  Like some serious love.  I think I have put them on about half of the girl's dresses I have ever made, and the other half---well, I certainly debated it. So, now we have some removable collars that can go on those dresses too!  Wahoo! (Am I crazy?  Ok, you ... View the Post
