Thrifted Thursdays—Pattern Box Tutorial

A few weeks ago I was able to guest post HERE at Someday Crafts: On that day I shared a tutorial that helped me organize a little problem of mine but it's actually a perfect project for me to share on thrifted Thursdays. Perfect because it helps me organize all the vintage patterns that I buy at thrift stores! (And believe me, I buy a lot of them.) Here's what I made: Mod Podged & Patterned Pattern Boxes. They are easy to make and absolutely perfect to store all your thrifted (or brand ... View the Post

A White Shirt Dress…

I found this Land's End junior's shirt on my last thrifting trip for $2.  I loved the Peter Pan collar (I am kind of a sucker for anything with a peter pan collar) and decided it would be a good school dress for the newest First Grader around this house.I thought when I first bought it that I would have to take in the sides...but it worked perfectly as a bigger shirt dress.  All I really did to it was add some belt loops for a ribbon belt, and chop off the sleeves and put in an elastic casing. We ... Elephants on Parade

A few weeks ago I had two baby events the same weekend. One was for a girl... ...and one was for a boy.So while I was spending time "taking it easy" on the couch I cut out some fuzzy flannel elephants and stitched them onto onesies and burp cloths to take to the gatherings. I think I may make some of these for Ruth as well. Although, everything I've gotten her recently has been covered in pink and gray elephants...hum...I wonder what other animals I could make... ... Wrap Skirt made from a Circle Skirt

In case you missed this post a couple of weeks ago on The Crafting Chicks. One thing you will notice about me on this blog is that I love to make skirts.  They are one of the first things I learned to make as a teenager, and I love them because there are a million possiblities.  And now that I have an 11 month old crawling EVERYWHERE, I love them even more because they are a one nap project.  YES! And circle skirts. Well, they are just up there on my skirt list.   Probably because they are ... View the Post

The Art of Homemaking—Feeding Infants

Ok, I have to tell you that this chapter really made me laugh. We have come such a long way in feeding infants. It's a wonder our parents or grandparents ever survived isn't it?  Or then again, maybe we are the crazy ones?Everyone has their own opinions......As for the older infant....I need to make some homemade tomato juice....:) You'll see why in a minute.According to The New Settlement Cookbook, 1954:Infant Feeding"When the bottle-fed newborn baby leaves the hospital nursery, the hospital ...
