$5 Friday…Fun Activites for Our Boys of Summer

This summer we are short on funds (it seems we are always short on funds...but who isn't?). However, I really wanted to make sure that we had a super fun summer. So the day after school ended Simon (my little guy) and I sat down and made a 3 page list of ideas that sounded fun and cost next to nothing. Since then we've been busy crossing activities off of that list. Here are a few of the favorites thus far: #1. Jedi Bubble Training: Cost: $1 for the bubble wand (we already had the light ... Thrifted Thursday–A Boy’s Fort

My inspiration for this project came from this image that I saw a while ago.  It is from the book Weekend Sewing by Heather Ross (which is on sale, by the way, hint...hint...hon:).  I don't have this book, but I saw the image last year while flipping through the book and loved it.  And decided it was time to make something like it for the boys.  I still want the book, it looks like it has lots of other amazing projects.  Anyone have it? source This is how I made mine...in about 30 minutes.  ... Boys Week—More PVC Projects

It seems that this summer may be the summer of my love affair with PVC pipe. Every time I think of something I want to make it involves using more PVC pipe. Like this target: It's made from a simple PVC frame, leftover canvas from another project, 2 pieces of ribbon, and some paint. The entire project took less than and hour from start to finish. (If anyone is interested I can post a tutorial with all the parts and measurements.) This easy to make target is super fun...Simon (my little man) ... View the Post

Some new shorts

Ok....I have to apologize first for the crappy pictures.  I promise they are cuter in real life.  These pictures were taken on a super dark day...hence the white balance being TOTALLY off, and the super photoshopping.  Yikes, I am kind of embarassed. Learn from me, never take photos on a dark day (unless you have a post to finish for tomorrow and you are scrambling....then you will get something like the following.  Argh.) As I said before, all of our boys needed shorts.  So, I got busy for ... View the Post

Start of Our Boys week–Peggies

Peg dolls are not just for girls anymore.....I have to brag about Liz for a minute.  She came up with this idea and gave these to Aaron for Christmas last year.  She knows that Aaron loves Harry Potter and Star Wars and let me tell you they are a favorite toy around here. So, if you need an airplane or car toy for vacation this summer, I highly suggest some painted peggies in your boy's favorite characters.  They are definitely going on vacation with us (we have a long car ride ahead of us ... The Art of Homemaking—A Chart For All Specimens

Yesterday I posted a tutorial on how to make this: A "Cereal Specimen Chart" that I made for my husband for Father's Day. For my husband it's the perfect gift...he really like personalized gifts, we met in high school where we made our leaf specimen collection together, and he LOVE LOVE LOVES cereal. SO it really was a perfect gift. But as I was making it I thought how it could be made differently to fit what other Dad's might like. For instance what if you had a dad who loves candy? You could ...
