The Art of Homemaking

Facet No.4 A Place for Everything—Everything in its Place

There is no progress report from the last two weeks of my homemaking experiment. We've already firmly established that I am an "almoster". So, with that in mind let's move on with some more encouraging advice from Ms. Hoole:"No one wants to be just an Almoster. Let's continue our analysis by suggesting the qualities and characteristics which make an ideal homemaker."So, turning the page I am now on to: Faucet No. 4 "A PLACE FOR EVERYTHING---EVERYTHING IN ITS PLACE". I should do well at this ... View the Post

$5 Friday– Halloween Procrastination Style

As usual I procrastinated part of our family's costumes this year. So, late last night I finally made our little bubba's costume.....but totally different than what I was planning. Our family is being Harry Potter characters this year with big brother as Harry, little sister as Hermione and our new baby as Hedwig the owl. We bought the other costumes but I couldn't find a baby owl costume that was small enough. So, I set out to make one. I originally bought a white Carter's snowsuit that I ... View the Post

Facet No.3 Some Are Almosters

"An ideal homemaker is devoted to the great career in which she is engaged. She is a professional in her field by being a homemakerevery day and letting her devotion and sense of duty, rather than her moods, dominate her."---Daryl V. HooleMs. Hoole goes on to state that there are 3 types of homemaker. #1. The "Don't Cares", #2. The "Almosters", and #3. The "Ideal Homemakers".As I've previously noted, I am, of course, an "Almoster". In fact, I'm the ideal example of an "Almoster". But my ship ... View the Post

$5 Friday

$5 Friday…Yard Ghosts

This week for $5 Friday I made our annual yard ghosts for Halloween. Here's how:#1. Get a wire hanger and stretch it out. (Your hook should still be in tact at the top but now the body of the hanger is tall and skinny with a point at the end to stick into the ground.)#2. Wrap some used grocery bags around the hook of the hanger. (This will make the head.)#3. Cover the head and body with a white garbage sack. #4. Tie a ribbon around the neck.#5. Stick in the ground.*NoTe: If you are opposed to ... View the Post

Facet No. 3 Some Are Almosters

The chapter title for the current and upcoming week of my experiment is entitled "SOME ARE ALMOSTERS". Unfortunately, try as I might, I've been the poster child for the almosters this week. Here's a sample of what Ms. Hoole defines as an "Almoster":"...They just don't quite make it...Their intentions are good...They spend lots of time and energy, but they don't quite reach their goals, they don't quite get the job done...This results in frustrations, wear and tear on the nerves....."ect. etc. ...
