How to Make Giant Tassels

Today we want to show you a quick way to make some fun over sized yarn tassels.  They are great for parties, kids room decor or even to decorate a playhouse or a teepee!  We have paired them in so many ways....I love how versatile they are. Materials: cotton yard (or any yarn of your choosing), piece of cardboard 11" tall (I used a manilla folder), and scissors. ... View the Post

THE Art of Homemaking

Almost every Tuesday we post about "The Art of Homemaking"...but when and why did we start doing this? Wellllll......around 6 years ago (about the same time we started this blog) I ran across a book at a thrift store entitled "The Art of Homemaking" and I HAD to buy it.  Not, necessarily because of my love for the art of homemaking but for the kitschy illustrations I found inside the book and because I saw a quotation written within it's pages that said, "BEAUTY IS A DUTY" and I thought it ... The Simple Simon and Company Online Shop is Now OPEN!!!

Just over 5 years ago Elizabeth and I were individually running around doing every local boutique, craft fair, and bazaar we could find. We both had recently become stay at home moms and were love, love, LOVING all things sewing, crafting, and quilting. Looking back on those years I can't even begin to count the number of skirts, quilts, bows, dresses, bags, and pegs dolls that we each made. Seriously...I can't image how many different handmade items that we cranked out...it was fun, and ... View the Post

Back to School Striped Dress

We are headed back to school at our house this week...and this time of year is always incentive to make a dress. I keep cherishing the "one more year" I get to make her a dress, because my worry is that every year will be the last. But I will keep up the tradition for as many years as she agrees to it. ... How to Assemble A TeePee

Today we wanted to show you how How to Assemble A TeePee.  In the pattern it tells you where to buy the 6' long poles or you are welcome to cut your own to the length. It is a much easier job with 2 people so grab a friend and you will have it set up and lashed in under about 15 minutes. And once it is lashed tightly I just close the bottom poles on it to put it away and the top stays together perfectly. ... View the Post
