Gracie’s Must Have WINTER Maxi Dress

You ever have one of those mornings where everything just goes wrong? Well, that was my morning yesterday...all the socks were still in the dryer...damp, Simon left his backpack home, Ruth leaked through 2 outfits before 9am, I ripped my pajama pants, Grace spilled a half gallon of milk all over the kitchen floor, and on and on until 10am when we went to take these photos of Grace in her new maxi dress. That's when I tipped over in the snow while trying to take her picture and the battery ... View the Post

How do you find time to sew?

"How do you find the time to sew?"It's a question that Liz and I get asked in our inbox a lot.  And sometimes (ok, most of the time) I don't have a great answer for people.  But over the last couple of weeks, I have been thinking about this question again (a kind readers asked for some help recently).....and I realized maybe we do have a few answers or tricks or secrets or just maybe something that may spark a helpful idea. So, over the next little while, Liz and I are going to be sharing some ... Quilt

A Jane Austen Quilt

I'm not a quilter. Not that there's anything wrong with that.  I'm just letting you know that there's not going to be a tutorial, how-to, or even a look-at-this-real-close item in this post. I'm also not a Jane Austen fan. Not that there's anything wrong with her. I just don't enjoy reading her work.  At all. Ever.  Or watching any of the millions of movies made from her books...unless Kenneth Branagh is in them...and then well, it's Kenneth Branagh who could be in a documentary talking ... View the Post

Projects

Because I am up to my eyeballs in projects….let’s just add one more to the list.

One of Hannah's Christmas gifts this year was to re-do her room.  She's been begging us since we switched the boys' rooms back in the summer, and she was thrilled Christmas morning to finally get her wish.  Her bedroom has been the same since she was two and got her twin bed, so I really can't complain.  It was time for a bit of updating.  (Although it makes me sad that my little girl doesn't want a little girl room anymore---she is growing up way too fast for this momma.)She's been talking ... An Inscription and My Book List

Awhile back I was out of town visiting my brother who happens to live nearby to my most favorite thrift store ever.  And because he loves me he consented to take me and my three kids over to prowl the store for awhile---he even walked the kids around the store and kept them entertained so I could rummage through all the patterns and smelly fabric.  (Ah! The scent of moth bally polyester!!!) Anyways when we went to leave he and Simon had a purchase to make---a big, thick, old book called "The ... View the Post

$5 Friday: Wierd Wal-Mart Knit—Another Buffalo Gals Look that Didn’t Make the Cut

Back in November when I showed Gracie's Buffalo Gals Lookbook I didn't show all the other pieces that I had made that I didn't feel like "fit" with the collection.  This is one of them.  It wasn't that I didn't like the leggings or that I accidentally made them 10 sizes to small.  I just didn't like how they looked with the other items I had made.  So Grace got to wear them and didn't even have to get her picture taken in them...until the other day when we were all inside for the afternoon ...
