A Handmade Christmas: Reusable Christmas Bags

This post was originally done for Riley Blake's Design Team Wednesday, but you still have time to make some if you need to.... At Christmas each year we have a tradition that our kids can open one present on Christmas Eve, which is always a new, sparkling set of pajamas for Christmas morning pictures.  It's a fun tradition and the kids love it....but it has always been a hassle finding those presents under the tree. So, I  had an idea to make reusable Christmas bags that we can use ... View the Post

A Handmade Christmas: An Embroidery Sampler

This last weekend we had such a low-key Saturday morning.  We had no place to get to, it had snowed (a lot) over night and it just seemed so peaceful.  We all stayed in our jammies until well after noon, and I got some good sewing time in (which is unusual for the mornings---I usually wait until nap time). And after Friday's events I just felt like we all needed to be home.  And together.  I am a homebody normally, but this tragedy has thrown me for a loop.  As soon as I heard the news on ... $5 Friday—Christmas Mini Bow Hair Bows

Grace has long hair.  And it's always tangled.  It's best to keep her hair in a bun...which it is most days with a little bow (or bows) on the side. So the other day when we were at the Dollar Store and I saw these mini bows I thought that they would be perfect for Gracie's hair during the holidays.  And they are...and it's a 30 second project...which is also perfect for the holidays. Here's what I used: And here's how I put them together: That's it.  No sewing, no gluing, no ... View the Post

A Handmade Christmas: Bits and Pieces

I don't know about you, but I am desperately trying to finish up handmade gifts this week.  I gave myself the deadline that they have to be done by the time the kids are out of school--because then, I have told myself that kid-time is just more important than sewing. (Do you think I will second-guess that thought when the fighting begins two days in Christmas break?....Ummm...probably.) So, long-story-short, my house is a mess.....but I have been working through the list.  I have two quilt ... View the Post

Neighbor Gifts and the Worst Christmas Songs Ever (That we Really Love)

So every year my husband and I give all of our neighbors the exact same gift...ever year...same thing...year after year... a big old roll of wrapping paper. Seriously.  Every year. (Except for that year when I read that book about the history of salt and gave everyone a can of Morton's Salt along with a note about why salt is the most interesting thing ever...but that is another post for another time.) Anyways as I was saying we always give our neighbors wrapping paper for Christmas.  I'm big ... View the Post

A Handmade Christmas: The Holly and the Ivy….

I needed a couple of thank-you gifts for some people recently, so I spent one afternoon embellishing some handtowels up for Christmas.   I thought they would be a nice, but practical and usable gift. I bought the towels at Costco (they have a 12 pack for $16--and they are the thicker, high-quality towels.)  I paired the towels with some of the foaming hand soaps from Bath and Body Works (that were on sale for $2), tied them both up with a ribbon and passed them out. For the towels, all I did ... View the Post
