17 Hours, 2 Round Trip Plane Tickets, and over 100 Pounds of Fabric OR Lucy and Ethel go to California

So Friday morning at 4:50am Elizabeth and I were pulling out of my driveway on our way to the airport.  For a long time now we've been wanting to take a trip to the LA fashion district and Friday was the day! Now neither of us enjoy flying but for this...we were willing to make an exception. On the way to the airport we were so nervous and so busy talking that we missed the exit to the airport which led to a chain of events worthy of an I Love Lucy Episode including Elizabeth talking the ... $5 Friday: Pom Pom Hairclips

Today's $5 Friday is an easy craft that you can do with girls of any age.  Hannie was the yarn-wrapper, and I was the tie-er and gluer.  And we had a fun time. On some we did regular old alligator clips. And on some we tied in hair elastics (with a dab of hot glue to keep them in there better). But someone is now convinced that the hair ties look much better as bracelets.  And well, I think she might be right! Any fun weekend plans? ~Elizabeth ... View the Post

Thrifted Thursday: The Skirt That Was Not Meant To Have Pockets

So night before last the kids were snuggled into bed and my husband was doing some work so I decided to make myself a skirt to put into the flicker group over at Crafterhours skirt week. It seemed like a good idea and since I never sew for myself I was kind of excited.  I went downstairs, rummaged through my vintage pattern pile, hoard, collection and found one that I thought would be fun for the summer.   It's a McCall's Pattern from 1960 that I bought at Deseret Industries for 50 ... Vintage Pocket Wrap Skirt.

Today's project was one that I cut out about a month ago...and finally finished today.  It is from a 1968 vintage wrap skirt pattern that was a girls size 8. So, I did some math (super hard for me sometimes) and sized it down to a 5/6, and luckily it worked!  (I love it when that happens). The main skirt is chambray and the pockets and wrap part (it essentially wraps in the back) are some vintage cotton that I found at an estate sale that I LOVE. I love that the skirt is a wrap-around ... View the Post

Ghosts of Blogging Past…..and Summer Projects

June and October are my 2 favorite months.  Both of them seem so full of possibilities---October when the seasons change and the holidays are just beginning and June with the start of summer and all the fun waiting to be had... This is our first official week of summer vacation but so far it hasn't started off like I planned...we have the flu.  (Seriously---how can we be sick during my favorite time of year?)  But I'm hoping that the worst is over and we can start our summer fun.Which means that ... Vintagely Modern Skirt for Summer

I have been thinking for a while now that it was time to update The Vintagely Modern Skirt for summer.  And because I am obsessed with making them in stripes (I did a black and white one for winter) I chose hot pink and white for summer. HERE is the original tutorial.  But, just so you know, I did do two things differently.  First, I put in an invisible zipper on the side seam because I wanted it to be more of a fancy skirt.  You can see the zipper peeking out by her hand on her hip in the ...
