Watermelon Sorbet

I have to tell you that this is one of my absolute favorite treats in the afternoon.  When it is hot and I give the kids a popsicle, this is my go-to snack for myself.....and it is so worth it.  No added sugar (I sometimes do if the watermelon isn't super sweet), but it's really just frozen watermelon, a bit of water and lime juice, blended to such a smooth and delicious taste.  I learned to make watermelon icecream when I was living in the Algarve in Southern Portugal.  We had it for dinner one ... The Art of Homemaking—On Facet 4…It’s Still Good Advice

I always write my Art of Homemaking Posts on Friday nights after everyone has fallen asleep in the family room (remember, our insane weekly camp outs?).  I like writing then.  Everyone is snuggled around me, I'm happy, the house is quiet...it's the perfect time to think about my home and family. But last night Simon and I stayed up way too late watching a million episodes of "Natures Deadliest" on Netflix.  (He loves any show about dangerous animals or natural disasters and we've just about run ... $5 Friday—Little Artist ApronTutorial

This week my kids and I finally made our summer to-do list.  It's a little different this year but I'm really happy with it and so are the kids. I think that I'll probably share it with you this weekend but for today I'm going to post a tutorial that I got to share over at Mama Says Sew a few weeks ago. It's for a little artist apron, something that will be a well used item this summer---especially with the summer art camps that I will start teaching on Monday.  (I LOVE summer art ... View the Post

The LA Fashion District–part II

Today I am sharing my pictures from LA.  Yes, everything Liz told you is true....even the part about me holding onto the emergency exit door until the plane touched the ground.  I am not a very good flyer in turbulence and the fact that we were landing in a CRAZY, ridiculous wind storm didn't help matters. But it was such a fun, whirlwind trip..... Here is the FIDM store....which is awesome!  This is a must-do.This is The Loft which is part of Michael Levine. And this is what most of the fabric ... Ruth’s Button on Bibs (A How To)

I am so excited for summer! There are lots of reasons for this but not one of the least of them being that summer means showing off little baby arms and chubby baby legs! (Oh my goodness do I ever love my babies in summer rompers!) A few weeks ago I pulled out some patterns I've been hanging onto from the 50's and sewed them on up for baby Ruth.  They are plain and simple and I love them. But then I remembered some pictures I had seen with bibs that were buttoned onto these kinds of jumpers ... View the Post

A 3-Seam Caftan Tutorial.

We still have a lot to tell you about our whirlwind "Lucy and Ethel take on the LA Fashion District" trip (Liz shared part I yesterday) and I will be back with another round of that (including fabric pics) on Thursday....but in the meantime I have one of the easiest dresses on the planet to make---3 seams and NO hemming.  Yes!  Seriously, the perfect for summer.   At the end of our pattern drafting class, both Liz and I got obsessed with caftans.  She made the Endora top using the caftan ...
